Our client is a large, well-established real estate private credit manager, recognised for the quality of its people, disciplined underwriting approach and ability to deliver bespoke financing solutions across the Australian commercial real estate debt market. The platform has built a strong reputation with sponsors, brokers and investors and continues to be an active and growing participant across a range of property asset classes and capital structures.
Following a period of exceptional growth in both AUM and transaction volume, the business has expanded nationally and internationally. As part of this continued growth, they are seeking to appoint an experienced Senior Credit Manager to strengthen the credit function and support the next phase of the platform's development.
The role has been designed to enhance the efficiency, consistency and robustness of the credit process, ensuring the business can continue to scale while maintaining strong risk discipline.
The Role
This is a senior credit position with responsibility across the assessment, approval and execution of real estate lending opportunities. You will work closely with origination, credit and senior leadership, playing a key role in shaping credit outcomes and supporting timely, well-considered investment decisions.
In this role, you will be responsible for:
* Assessing and approving a broad range of real estate lending transactions, operating within the firm's defined risk appetite and credit framework
* Partnering closely with originators and credit analysts to provide structuring input and guidance throughout the deal lifecycle
* Reviewing, challenging and refining credit submissions, including financial models, assumptions and downside stress testing
* Providing informed judgement on construction risk, development risk and legal structures by collaborating with internal and external specialists
* Reviewing and signing off on detailed credit papers and recommendations for approval
* Utilising your Delegated Lending Authority (DLA) to avoid approval bottlenecks and support an efficient decision-making process
* Acting as a project manager from credit approval through to loan documentation and settlement, ensuring all conditions precedent are satisfied
* Contributing to the ongoing development and improvement of credit policies, processes and governance
Ideal Candidate
The ideal background will include:
* 7+ years' experience in a credit and/or origination role within a bank, non-bank lender or real estate private credit platform
* Strong understanding of commercial real estate lending
* Proven ability to assess risk, identify key issues and distinguish between attractive and unattractive credit opportunities
* Experience reviewing and challenging complex financial models and deal structures
* Ideally has held Delegated Lending Authority (DLA) or operated at a similar approval level
* A solid understanding of real estate fundamentals across one or more property asset classes
* Someone who is commercially minded and a confident communicator who can engage effectively with internal stakeholders and external counterparties
