Overview
"Be the catalyst that turns breakthrough science into global commercial reality."
Samsara Eco exists for one reason: to repair our planet through infinite plastic recycling.
We are now entering the most defining phase of our journey — transitioning from breakthrough technology to global commercial deployment. This next chapter requires disciplined capital allocation, integrated operating design, and leadership that can translate technical innovation into enterprise-scale execution.
WHO WE ARE
Samsara Eco is a climate technology innovator creating a truly circular solution for plastics and textiles. We are unlocking the ability to recycle materials infinitely — enabling brands to decouple growth from fossil fuel dependency.
Having successfully proven our science and piloting capability, we are now deploying our First Commercial Facility and building the blueprint for global replication.
This is not just an engineering challenge. It is an enterprise scaling challenge.
ROLE PURPOSE
The Owner's Engineer - Process representsSamsara's technical and commercial interests in the design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and performance validation ofourfirst-of-a-kind process plant.
The role provides independent process engineering leadership to ensure that:
Theoriginal technology design intentis faithfully translated into executable engineering.
The facility meets production, safety, operability, maintainability, environmental, and commercialobjectives.
Design decisions are robust, defensible, and aligned with theSamsara's long-term operating strategy.
Technical risk isidentified, quantified, and managed throughout all project phases.
The final plant is fit-for-purpose, safe tooperate, and capable of achieving guaranteed performance metrics.
Process knowledge is transferred effectively to the long-term Operations team.
This position acts as the independent technical authority for the Owner and serves as the critical bridge between our:
EPC/MPCContractor
Operations Process Engineering Team
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Team Leadership & Technical Guidance
o Work closely with the In-House Technology Team to: Translate pilot, lab, and development data into scalable industrial design criteria.
o Define and maintain the Process Design Basis.
o Document critical assumptions, sensitivities, and operating envelopes.
o Ensure technology design intent is preserved through: FEED and detailed engineering, vendor package design and controlling philosophy development.
o Review and approve: Heat & mass balances, PFDs and P&IDs, Equipment sizing and design margins.
o Relief system design and control narratives and alarm philosophy.
o HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, and SIL outcomes.
o Ensure consistency between steady-state design, dynamic behaviour, and startup philosophy.
* Risk Identification & Process Safety
o Identifyscale-up, operability, and controllability risks early.
o Confirm chemical handling, utilities integration, and waste streams are robustly designed.
* Commissioning & Performance Validation
o Review and approve commissioning procedures.
o Validate startup strategy and ramp-up logic.
o Support troubleshooting during commissioning and early operations.
* Knowledge Transfer & Readiness to Operate
o Develop and implement a structuredProcess Knowledge Transfer Plan.
o Work alongside Operations Process Engineers to: explain design assumptions and constraints, transfer understanding of control philosophy and dynamic sensitivities and clarifyoperatingenvelopes and limiting parameters.
o SOPs, Startup/shutdown narratives, Process troubleshooting guides.
o Ensure Operations Engineers understand not only "how" the plant runs, but "why" it was designed that way.
QUALIFICATIONS
* Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering (required).
* Postgraduate qualifications in Chemical/Process Engineering advantageous.
* Chartered or professional registration (e.g., CEng, RPEQ) is highly regarded.
* Strong foundation in reaction engineering, separations, heat transfer, fluid flow, and solids handling.
* Demonstrated experience scaling technologies from pilot to commercial operation.
* Deep understanding of process safety and risk mitigation principles.
* Experience with FOAK or technology‐commercialisation projects is a strong advantage.
* Proven ability to support commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting.
* Communicates clearly with technical and non‐technical stakeholders.
* Confident, independent thinker who can challenge assumptions constructively.
* Thrives in complexity and ambiguity typical of FOAK environments.
* Strong alignment with Samsara Eco's mission and values.
* Commitment to safety, integrity, and long‐term asset performance.
* Flexibility to support shift work during commissioning as needed.
Location & Travel Requirements
This role can be based in any of the following locations:
Australia — with travel to Asia
Singapore — with extensive travel to Australia and Asia
Please note: Regardless of home base, the role requires significant time onsite. This includes:
2–3 months on the ground in Jerrabomberra, Australia during the early project phases
Increased time in Asia toward the end of the plant fit‐out and commissioning.
