Primary objective
One- or two-year training position to achieve a range of competencies for Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine (AFPHM)
public health physician training.
Context statement
The positions sit within the Public Health Division of NT Health and will undertake projects in the Non-Communicable Disease
Unit (includes the Preventive Health Strategy Unit and NT Cancer Screening Services) and the Health Statistics and Informatics
Unit.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide public health services in a range of NT Health settings.
1. Participate in and coordinate projects within the Public Health Division addressing chronic disease prevention, injury
prevention, cancer screening, environmental health.
3. Conduct public health research projects and contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives.
4. Lead the monitoring, investigation, and management of non-communicable disease issues.
5. Participate in the development and implementation of policies and programs across public health and other relevant NT Health
settings.
6. Engage in activities relating to media, public health messaging, public health teaching, and applying research to practice.
7. Participate in the AFPHM training program.
8. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken
in order to ensure high quality, safe services, and workplaces.
9. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Medical Practitioner eligible for general or conditional registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
2. Advanced trainee of AFPHM or qualifications and experience suitable for acceptance as an advanced trainee of the AFPHM.
3. Demonstrated appropriate interpersonal, communication and organisational skills, including the ability to liaise with a range of
health professionals, both in hospital and community-based settings.
4. Experience in public health and a proven ability to demonstrate operational skills in the field of public health.
1. Evidence of conceptual and analytical skills that may include previous research experience.
2. Knowledge of current and emerging NT public health issues.
3. An ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
