Australia Post is delivering like never before. As our network continues to evolve, accurate forecasting and trusted data are critical to making the right decisions at the right time.
We're looking for a Data Solutions Analyst (Forecasting) to build and enhance forecasting solutions that support smarter planning and decision‐making across Network Operations.
About the opportunity
We work in a fast‐moving operational environment where priorities shift, problems are complex, and decisions matter. This role suits someone who can bring structure to ambiguity, understand uncertainty, and explain forecasts in a way that helps others act with confidence.
You'll work closely with Network Analytics, Operations, Planning, Finance and Technology teams, helping leaders and frontline teams make informed decisions that balance service, safety, cost and capacity.
About the role
This role sits within Network Analytics and focuses on developing, improving and operationalising forecasting solutions used day‐to‐day across the network.
You'll work with large, complex datasets to create forecasts that inform volume planning, capacity and resource decisions, and network performance outcomes. Your work will help the business understand what's coming, why it matters, and how to respond.
With a strong focus on governance, scalability and data quality, you'll ensure forecasting solutions are trusted, repeatable and fit for ongoing operational use not one‐off analysis.
What you'll deliver
* Partner with operations, planning and finance teams to align forecasts to priority decisions
* Translate forecast outputs into clear narratives that explain assumptions, uncertainty, risks and impacts
* Influence planning and investment decisions by articulating trade‐offs between cost, service and capacity
* Build trust in forecasts through transparency, consistency and explainability
* Develop and enhance forecasting models to support operational and strategic planning
* Translate historical trends, demand drivers and constraints into actionable forecasts
* Build and maintain scenarios to support planning under uncertainty
* Track performance and continuously improve forecast accuracy and relevance
Advanced analytics & ML‐assisted forecasting
* Apply statistical and ML‐assisted forecasting techniques (e.g. time‐series methods, regression, causal drivers)
* Support the full lifecycle of forecasting solutions, from development to production use
* Use outcomes and feedback to improve models and planning insights
Data & analytics engineering
* Design, build and maintain scalable, production‐grade datasets supporting forecasting and planning
* Write efficient, well‐structured SQL and analytics models that are reliable, testable and reusable
* Apply analytics engineering best practices, including modular modelling and clear dependencies
* Implement CI/CD‐aligned workflows using Git, testing and controlled promotion to production
* Ensure strong data integrity, documentation and governance across forecasting pipelines
About you
You're a pragmatic, analytically strong problem solver who enjoys working at the intersection of data, planning and decision‐making. You're comfortable with ambiguity, understand uncertainty, and care deeply about quality, structure and trust.
You want to build forecasting solutions that are sustainable, scalable and widely used—rather than spreadsheet‐based heroics.
You'll also bring
* 5+ years' experience in forecasting, planning or advanced analytics roles
* Strong experience applying forecasting and demand modelling techniques
* Advanced SQL capability, with clear judgement on SQL vs Python in production analytics
* 3+ years' experience building analytics‐ready data sets in cloud data platforms GCP
* Experience working with large, complex operational datasets
* Ability to explain forecasts, assumptions and risk to non‐technical stakeholders
* Familiarity with analytics engineering and CI/CD practices (Git, testing, promotion)
* Use of Jira and Confluence for delivery, documentation and handover
* Comfort working in governed, safety‐critical environments
* Exposure to logistics, network operations or planning environments (highly regarded)
