Reporting to the Canberra News Editor, you will be responsible for gathering, editing and presenting compelling local news stories in a composed, accurate and engaging manner. This role requires roster flexibility, and a willingness to work extra hours when the news day demands.
What you'll do
* Research and write accurate, engaging news stories for digital and broadcast platforms.
* Cover breaking stories and create engaging content.
* Develop and maintain positive relationships with key people and organizations.
* Collaborate with editors and colleagues to develop story ideas and deliver high-quality content.
What you'll bring
You'll be a driven and energetic graduate, with the ability to think clearly and act quickly under pressure, possessing excellent communication skills to collaborate with different stakeholders internally, as well as externally with the local community. You'll be able to work in a fast-paced environment, with a focus on tight deadlines. You'll also bring:
* A bachelor's degree in journalism, Communications or related subject.
* Proven journalism/editorial skills.
* A solid understanding of media law and ethics.
* Competency in script writing in TV News format.
* Meticulous attention to detail with some experience in a newsroom.
