The role
Central to the mission of Emmaus Catholic Primary School is an undeniable commitment to fostering the dignity, self‐esteem and integrity of children and young people while providing a safe, supportive, and enriching environment for spiritual, physical, intellectual, emotional, and social development.
Learning Support Officers work with students who have diverse learning needs within the learning spaces, either on a one‐to‐one basis or in small group situations. The support can encompass a range of needs, including physical, personal care, intellectual, and social‐emotional development.
Emmaus Catholic Primary School promotes the safety, wellbeing and inclusion of all children.
Responsibilities
- Display an understanding of the Catholic ethos and demonstrate living out the mission of the school.
- Support the teaching and learning of the Catholic ethos and tradition.
- Provide one‐to‐one or small group support to primary aged children with diverse learning needs.
- Ensure a safe and child‐protected environment.
- Apply inclusive learning practices and promote independence in students with diverse learning needs.
- Collaborate with colleagues to achieve high levels of learning, balancing initiative, and seeking direction from classroom teachers.
Key Selection Criteria
- Full support for the teaching and learning of the Catholic ethos and tradition.
- Experience and/or qualifications working with primary aged children (preferred).
- Awareness and commitment to the safety and wellbeing of children.
- Knowledge of inclusive learning practices for children with diverse learning needs.
- Unconditional positive regard and an ability to be flexible and energized.
- Proven commitment to developing independence in students with diverse learning needs.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve high levels of learning.
- Understanding of balancing initiative, seeking direction, and supporting classroom teachers.
