Job Description

The role of Chief Executive Officer at the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water presents a unique opportunity for a highly skilled and experienced leader to drive strategic vision and inspire others to achieve exceptional results.

This is an appointment that demands a professional with high level leadership skills, demonstrated integrity, and a strong commitment to public sector governance and accountability. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the staff of the Authority, ensuring the day-to-day administration, and acting in accordance with policies determined by the Authority.

The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of climate change policy, experience handling public and media scrutiny, and the ability to exhibit sharp political judgement and awareness. They will be a change leader with the capacity to deliver outcomes for diverse stakeholders, including government, science, industry, non-government organisations, and academia.


Required Skills and Qualifications

* High level leadership and vision: sets a strategic vision, inspires others to achieve this, innovative in dealing with issues, articulates a clear direction for their organisation.
* Manages large and/or complex operations: achieves results within organisational and/or Government policy, strong financial management, efficient, effective, and ethical use of resources, understanding of and commitment to quality organisational governance.
* Works with others to meet objectives: operates collaboratively with others to meet organisational objectives, listens to people, values different perspectives, high level of judgement.

Eligibility Requirements:

* Outside employment: must not engage in paid employment outside the duties of their office without Minister's approval.
* Citizenship: must be an Australian citizen (with limited exceptions).
* Security Clearance: requires a Negative Vetting Level 2 security clearance. Must obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
* Pre-employment checks: suitability assessed through pre-employment screening process. This may include health, character, and security checks.
