An opportunity exists for a talented and enthusiastic Aboriginal Recovery Engagement Officer to join the Broome Mental Health Team, at the Broome Community Recovery Centre (BCRC).

Eligibility to Apply: Pursuant of Section 50(d) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984, the occupant of this position must be of Aboriginal descent.

Position Profile: The Aboriginal Recovery Engagement Officer is a vital part of the Broome Community Recovery Centre (BCRC) team. They provide cultural and organisational leadership and expertise to fellow staff, as well as to others delivering programs at the centre. This role also works closely with the Aboriginal Mental Health Worker team, contributing to KMHDS's delivery of culturally safe and inclusive activities and groups.

Key Responsibilities Include


* Coordinating, designing, and delivering Recovery programs.
* Providing cultural expertise and leadership to those delivering programs at the BCRC, including community agencies.
* Supporting the Recovery Centre Coordinator with BCRC operations and administration.

Area Profile: The WA Country Health Service (WACHS) is the largest country health system in Australia and one of the biggest in the world, providing health services to approximately half a million people, including 45,000 Aboriginal people, over a vast two and a half million square kilometre area. The organisation comprises seven regions, with a strong network of public hospitals, health services and health centres located across rural and remote Western Australia. Our core business is the provision of quality, accessible health services to country WA residents and visitors.

Team Profile: Located on the corner of Saville and Forrest Streets in Old Broome, the Broome Community Recovery Centre (BCRC) is part of the Kimberley Mental Health and Drug Service (KMHDS). The team includes a Centre Coordinator, peer workers, and the Aboriginal Recovery Engagement Officer.

Together, we deliver Recovery-based programs and supports for people with lived experience of mental health and AOD (alcohol and other drug) challenges, their carers, and families. We also provide education, support, and development opportunities to services and the wider community.

We partner with other organisations to support local Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB), mental health, and AOD initiatives.

BCRC incorporates the personal Recovery principles of inclusion, connectedness, hope, and optimism across all operations, programs, and activities.

Whilst this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other "similar" vacancies throughout the health service. Both of these options remain valid for a period of twelve (12) months from when the authorised delegate endorses the recruitment decision.
