Job Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic leader to head the Environmental Information Policy and Strategy Branch. The successful candidate will play a critical role in leading our efforts to provide trusted and accessible environmental data and information for national nature positive outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
1. National Data and Information Standard:
* Draft the standard to be tabled in parliament by March 2025;
* Design and undertake broad consultation around the draft standard;
* Stand up pilot framework and studies (all sectors incl. environment, finance, resources, govt) and advisory group to ground test the draft standard.
2. National Environmental Data Supply Chain:
* Orchestrate initial consultation to raise external awareness and support for EIA;
* Design governance structures;
* Appoint an advisory board and specialist technical committees as appropriate;
* Build strong partnerships with states and territories, industry, researchers, universities, museums and proponents to contribute to the national environmental supply chain;
* Establish effective data exchange agreements with all States and Territories.
3. National Environmental Data Strategy:
* Engage with national and jurisdictional stakeholders to scope the appetite for potential objectives of a National Environmental Data Strategy;
* Lead multijurisdictional efforts to develop a national strategy to ensure the effective operation of the national environmental data supply chain.
4. Digital Infrastructure:
* Coordinate across EIA and with ICT the analysis, design and staging of the digital infrastructure and the transformation needed for EIA to meet DCCEEW's priorities and effect a federated national environmental data and information supply chain.
5. Communications:
* Publish data and information products through the EIA website and portal;
* Design a communications plan to raise awareness and help internal and external stakeholders understand EIA's mission and work;
* Design a cohesive narrative, branding and publications plan for EIA products;
* Represent the EIA and the Department at a range of forums.
Requirements
* Able to take a strategic perspective in driving broad transformational change, both internal and external to the Department.
* Outstanding leadership skills, a substantial record of achievement and a reputation for innovation and delivery of results.
* Excellent stakeholder relationship skills, and experience in engaging with internal and external stakeholders at all levels to explore opportunities, solve complex problems and guide negotiations in a facilitative way.
* Able to manage competing demands and work to tight deadlines.
* Highly developed team management skills.
* Able to communicate effectively with all audiences in an articulate and persuasive manner.
* Demonstrated public service professionalism and probity.
* Formal scientific, data or digital qualifications and applied experience of environmental or other data and derived information.
Please note that this position requires a Negative Vetting Level 1 security clearance. You will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
