Details: This role is a key member of the school leadership team, responsible for strengthening cultural integrity and responsiveness across the school community. The successful applicant will lead the design, development, and delivery of a Dhurga language program aligned with our Country as Teacher curriculum framework.
In addition, you they support the cultural and emotional wellbeing of identified Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students through tailored mentoring programs. By sharing knowledge and commitment to caring for Country, they will guide staff in creating enriched inquiry units and foster deep connections to Country within the school community.
The successful applicant will help build stronger relationships with local Aboriginal communities, instil pride and cultural identity in our students, and nurture their sense of responsibility as traditional custodians. This position is central to embedding cultural knowledge and practices that empower students and strengthen the school’s commitment to reconciliation and cultural integrity.
Eligibility/Other Requirements:
* This is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander identified position as defined in Section 27 (4) of the Public Sector Management Act 1994 and is only available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage is considered essential and therefore a Confirmation of Aboriginality will be required.
* Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required. For further information on Working with Vulnerable People registration refer to - Apply for or renew a WWVP registration - Access Canberra (act.gov.au)
* A current First Aid Qualification (or a commitment to attaining one within three months).
* Recognised qualification and permission to teach the Dhurga language (or willingness to attain this within 12 months) would be desirable.
