About the role
We are excited to invite a passionate and experienced Child & Family Counsellor to join our Rockhampton team on a permanent basis.
In this rewarding role, you will provide specialist therapeutic support and counselling to children, young people, and families through individual, family, and group interventions. Using evidence‐based approaches and a strong understanding of child development, family systems, and family dynamics, you will help clients build resilience, strengthen relationships, and improve wellbeing outcomes.
Additionally, you will:
- Conduct client intake, assessment, risk screening, and case management activities.
- Apply knowledge of child development, family systems theory, and strength‐based practice frameworks to determine appropriate interventions.
- Provide counselling, support, information, and referrals to children, young people, parents, and families.
- Support parents to better understand and respond to their children's emotional wellbeing and developmental needs.
- Apply knowledge of domestic and family violence, child protection, and family law to inform safe and effective practice.
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with government, community, and support agencies to facilitate positive outcomes for clients.
- Maintain accurate client records, case notes, risk management documentation, and reporting requirements in accordance with organisational policies and funding obligations.
- Contribute to the development of resources, community education initiatives, and continuous improvement activities across the service.
The salary is being offered between $87,000 -$102,000 per annum, to be negotiated depending upon qualifications and experience, plus superannuation. Join us and experience a workplace where your wellbeing, growth, and success are our top priorities.
About you

We are seeking someone with strong therapeutic skills, sound clinical judgement, and a commitment to delivering child‐focused, strengths‐based interventions. Additionally, you will:
- Possess appropriate undergraduate qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, Behavioural Science, or a related social or behavioural science discipline.
- Demonstrated experience providing therapeutic interventions to children, young people, families, and groups across a range of presenting issues.
- Strong theoretical knowledge and practical application of child development, family systems theory, and strengths‐based practice approaches.
- Demonstrated understanding of domestic and family violence, child protection, family law, and associated legislative requirements.
- Strong communication, relationship‐building, and case management skills, with the ability to engage effectively with clients and community stakeholders.
- Excellent time management, administration, and documentation skills, including experience maintaining client records and reporting requirements.
- Competent computer skills, including Microsoft Office and client management systems.
