About the role
Corrective Services employs over 5000 staff and is responsible for management of over 16,000 people under our care in custodial facilities and in the community. Community safety is at the forefront of what we do, including all our staff. Our 'People' is one of three key principals in our Strategic Plan (People, Partnerships, Performance) which enables us to achieve our goal of a Safer, Smarter and Healthier Corrections.
This is an opportunity for a strategic and passionate leader to drive initiatives to positively influence culture and performance in the safety and health arena.
In this new and pivotal role within Corrective Services you will be accountable for building and improving the capability of senior management and staff, by providing specialist advice and guidance on matters of safety, health obligations, workers' compensation and injury prevention. Your role is critical in enabling a safer workplace by identifying key improvements to WHS processes aligned with our legal obligations and Corrective Services strategies and operational needs.
You will bring strong communication and negotiation skills to collaborate with sites, improving processes and systems that foster a safe, supportive, and healthy workplace for our staff. strategies for Corrective Services whilst also working in partnership with the Department's Health and Safety Branch.
You will play a key role in shaping and implementing WHS initiatives and developing proactive strategies to manage workers compensation, ensuring our people are well supported in their recovery and return to work.
You will be empowered to partner with operational leads to significantly contribute to the Safety and Health framework, ensuring that Work Health and Safety obligations are met and risk minimized.
