Job Purpose:
The Field Supervisor is responsible for overseeing Field Technicians conducting the recovery of copper cables and commodities from Telstra Roadside Cabinets. This includes ensuring all works are performed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with Telstra guidelines, Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), Job Safety and Environmental Analyses (JSEAs), and WV Technologies' Method of Procedure.
The Field Supervisor will manage on-site operations, verify adherence to recovery processes, and ensure accurate documentation of cabinet configurations and recovered materials. The role requires familiarity with cabinet structures, internal layouts, and recovery methodologies specific to each cabinet type. The position also includes responsibility for asbestos awareness and removal in line with WHS Regulations 2021 and the Code of Practice.
What Success Looks Like:
Operational Management
* Supervise the safe and efficient recovery of copper cables, and commodities from Telstra Roadside Cabinets while ensuring minimal disruption to the Telstra and other underground networks.
* Coordinate daily activities to align with operational timelines and quality standards.
* Manage teams to achieve agreed productivity targets.
* Recruitment and onboarding of staff.
SWMS Compliance
* Ensure comprehensive SWMS are prepared for each task, detailing the steps to complete the job safely and the controls to mitigate risks.
* Confirm all crew members understand the SWMS and are aware of hazards, such as underground services, asbestos in cables, or live network interfaces.
* Regularly inspect adherence to SWMS and update as needed when work conditions change.
JSEA Compliance
* Develop JSEAs that identify site-specific hazards and document mitigation strategies.
* Ensure JSEAs include environmental considerations like waste management and spill containment.
* Train teams on JSEAs, focusing on hazard awareness and safe practices.
* Review JSEA execution daily and update in real-time if conditions or work tasks change.
Toolbox Talks
* Reinforce key safety messages.
* Address daily hazards and changes to SWMS or JSEAs.
* Provide a platform for team members to voice concerns or share observations.
* Use toolbox talks to foster a safety-first culture and encourage proactive reporting.
Safety and Network Integrity
* Establish processes to isolate active network components before beginning recovery.
* Ensure meticulous planning to avoid damage to operational infrastructure.
* Create clear protocols for managing and reporting incidents to minimise impact on services.
Documentation and Reporting
* SWMS and JSEA compliance checks.
* Toolbox talks and attendance.
* Incident reports and safety audits.
* Ensure documentation meets regulatory and Telstra/NBN requirements.
Continuous Improvement
* Regularly review SWMS, JSEAs, and toolbox feedback to identify improvement areas.
* Adapt processes and provide training to address emerging risks or compliance updates.
* Train and mentor teams to improve industry knowledge and understanding of the network.
Who you are:
Training & Qualifications
* Current and unrestricted Australia's Driver Licence
* Current and valid FTTN accreditations
* Cert IV or higher in Electrotechnology or their equivalent
* White Card
* ACM accreditations
Skills and Competencies
* Proven leadership in field operations and supervision of multiple crews.
* Sound understanding of Telstra infrastructure and cabinet layouts.
* Demonstrated experience in legacy telecommunications network work
* Strong communication, coordination, and reporting skills.
* Knowledge of WHS, SWMS, JSEA, and asbestos handling requirements.
* Ability to drive operational efficiency while maintaining safety and compliance standards.
