About LOPS

We are a well-established private prosthetic and orthotic practice based in Launceston, Tasmania. We provide services to the North and North‑West of the state as well as Hobart.


About the Role

We are seeking the services of a prosthetic and orthotic technician who will be involved in the fabrication of prosthetic and orthotic devices for amputees under the direction of our clinical prosthetists. We build custom made prosthetic devices for both the adult and paediatric population.

We are looking for a hard‑working and compassionate person to take on this role. This job will suit an individual who has good hand skills, attention to detail and a desire to learn new techniques and improve on current skills. The preferred applicant will have a metal/trade background. The position is based in Launceston. Training will be provided.


Key Responsibilities

* Fabricate prosthetic and orthotic devices under the direction of the Prosthetic & Orthotic Clinicians.
* Employ safe working practices whether it is using hand tools, machines or when working around others.
* Filling and stripping of Plaster of Paris casts.
* Plastic moulding and finishing of various orthotic devices with straps, posts etc.
* Maintain a safe working environment in the workshop. Regularly maintain all workshop equipment such as air compressors, vacuum pumps, ovens etc.
* Ensure that the prosthetic & orthotic jobs are completed within the specified timeframe and available for the clinicians at the due date. The technician must be able to meet the demands of a busy workshop.
* Take care to protect your own safety and the safety of other staff.


Key Selection Criteria

* Trade Certificate eg fitting & turning, metal fabrication, building, carpentry or other relevant qualification and work experience.
* Full work rights in Australia.
* Current Police Check and Tasmanian Working with Vulnerable People Card.
* Current Australian/Tasmanian Drivers Licence.
* NDIS Orientation/Infection Control Certificate.
* Current Australian First Aid/CPR Certificate.
* Proficient skills in mechanical assembly, grinding, sanding, metal shaping and use of resins, carbon fibre, thermoplastics and reinforcing materials are desirable.
* Reliable and hard-working with a desire to work in the role.
* Excellent communication, time‑management, organisation, and problem solving skills.
* Ability to work independently.
* Be a team builder, have a friendly disposition and be able to get along with other colleagues.
* Sound computer and literacy skills.
* Commitment to continuing professional development and quality improvement.
