Senior Associate / Special Counsel – Property Lawyer
Seeking 5+ years property law experience. The work spans residential, commercial, and leasing matters across both ACT and NSW.
* Opportunity to take leadership of a growing Property & Commercial division.
* Inherit an established client base and expand it into your own network.
* Agile environment with tailored billables, hours and hybrid working.
When demand increases, you put the right person in charge, give them room to move, and let them take ownership. That’s exactly what’s happening here.
This role is for an experienced Property & Commercial lawyer who’s ready to step into a position that offers substance, influence and a clear runway towards Partnership. One of the firm’s Partners has deliberately shifted their focus into niche work, creating a natural handover of the firm’s core property and commercial matters. You’ll take over that work, shape it, and grow it, with the full support of Partners who understand that senior lawyers perform best when they’re trusted.
The work itself is broad and engaging, spanning residential, commercial and leasing matters across both ACT and NSW. You’ll be supported by an established conveyancing team that runs efficiently and independently, allowing you to focus on higher‑value legal work, client relationships and strategic growth rather than operational noise. This is not a clean‑up job or a rescue mission; it’s a well‑run practice that’s ready for its next phase.
Because this is a boutique firm, flexibility isn’t something written into a policy and ignored in practice. Expectations around billables, working hours and hybrid arrangements are tailored to the individual. Daily billable expectations for senior lawyers are deliberately kept at sustainable levels, reflecting the firm’s strong commitment to long‑term careers rather than short‑term burn.
The culture is one of the firm’s strengths. The team is predominantly made up of people with young families, and the environment is supportive without being precious. There are regular social events throughout the year, family days and barbecues, and an annual day where the firm shuts down entirely to spend time together. The firm actively encourages its lawyers to build networks and their personal profile, even hosting its own networking events and supporting solicitors who want to bring clients and contacts into the fold.
This is a firm with deep roots and modern values. They’ve been established a long time, but they operate with a contemporary mindset focused on autonomy, collaboration and professional development. The structure is lean, transparent and conducive to progression for the right person.
