Senior Java Developer - Calypso | FX Trading | 12-Month Contract | Sydney | Hybrid
We are partnering with a leading financial services organisation currently undertaking major investment across their FX and trading technology landscape.
An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Java Developer with robust Calypso expertise to join a high-performing engineering team delivering critical trading and post-trade solutions within a fast-paced capital markets setting.
You will work on the design, development, enhancement, and support of enterprise-grade trading applications focused on FX and capital markets workflows. The environment is highly technical, quick-moving, and business-facing, requiring strong engineering capability alongside a solid understanding of trading systems and the trade lifecycle.
You will contribute across both project delivery and BAU enhancement work, partnering closely with traders, operations, business analysts, and global technology teams.
Responsibilities
* Develop and enhance Java-based trading applications and Calypso integrations
* Build scalable microservices and APIs using Spring Boot
* Customise and support Calypso components including workflows, scheduled tasks, engines, messaging frameworks, and reporting
* Work across front, middle, and back-office trading workflows
* Support FX trade processing, settlement, confirmations, reconciliations, and downstream integrations
* Participate in system design, technical solutioning, and code reviews
Essential Skills & Experience
* Strong commercial Java development experience within financial markets environments
* Proven hands-on experience with Spring Boot and microservices architecture
* Calypso development and customisation experience
* Previous experience working within FX, trading, or capital markets environments is essential
* Strong understanding of the trade lifecycle and trading operations
* Experience with Calypso APIs, messaging frameworks, workflows, scheduled tasks, and engines
* Exposure to messaging technologies such as Kafka, JMS, or MQ
* Strong understanding of distributed systems and high-availability applications
Nice to Have
* Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS
* Knowledge of CI/CD tooling including Jenkins, Maven, Gradle, or GitLab
* Experience with performance optimisation and low-latency systems
* Understanding of Fixed Income or Commodities trading environments
