Main duties of the job
As a senior member of the Pharmacy team, you will be at the heart of delivering outstanding pharmaceutical care to our patients. You will combine hands-on clinical practice with leadership, service development, and quality improvement helping to ensure our pharmacy services consistently exceed standards.
Key Responsibilities
You will:
* Take a leading role in ensuring excellent pharmaceutical care for all patients at Benenden Hospital
* Assume the role of a Responsible Pharmacist and deputise for the Pharmacy Manager when required
* Lead on antimicrobial stewardship, representing Pharmacy on the Infection Control Committee
* Drive the development and review of Trust Patient Group Directions (PGDs) and associated training
* Lead and develop the clinical pharmacy service for surgical inpatients, embedding best practice in medicines management
* Develop, review, and update pharmacy policies, guidelines, and SOPs
* Lead on audit programmes, data collection, and presentations to support continuous quality improvement
* Supervise and support the clinical workload of the junior pharmacist and pharmacy technicians
* Assist the Pharmacy Manager with elements of line management and professional development of junior staff

Job responsibilities
Purpose:Actively support the Pharmacy Manager indelivering a safe, effective and quality Pharmacy service, whilst demonstratingclinical leadership within the team.
The post holder will:
Take active stepsto ensure an excellent level of pharmaceutical care is provided to all patientsbeing treated at Benenden Hospital.
Assume role of ResponsiblePharmacist and deputise for the Pharmacy Manager when required.
Lead onantimicrobial stewardship for the Pharmacy team, providing representation onthe Infection Control Committee.
Lead ondevelopment and update of Trust PGDs, and the associated training package.
Lead and develop the clinical pharmacy service provisionto a surgical inpatient population, ensuring high-quality medicines managementpractices are embedded within the provision of safe patient care.
Development and update of key Pharmacy policies,guidelines and standard operating procedures.
Lead on audit programmes, data collection andassociated presentations, as appropriate, as part of the continual qualityimprovement agenda of the Pharmacy department.
Supervise the clinical workload of the juniorpharmacist and pharmacy technicians
Assist the Pharmacy Manager with elements of linemanagerial support to the junior pharmacist.
Key Result Areas
Competently dispense and check allprescription types in the dispensary
Minimise errors / near miss errors withindispensary, ensuring reflection from staff and shared learning.
Report and investigate medication incidents,sharing learning and reducing risk of recurrence
Ensure that unintentional discrepancies identifiedthrough effective medicines reconciliation are prioritised
Take active steps to ensure safe storage andmanagement of controlled drugs within the organisation
Actively implement innovative methods to improve peri-operative medicines management, demonstrating effective engagementwith the multi-disciplinary team
Help to control drug expenditure througheffective medicines management practices and procurement
Adapt and refine the retail offering of thePharmacy department to continue to attract new and existing customers
Develop and deliver training to Pharmacy andother healthcare staff
Development and review of Pharmacy policies, guidelinesand standard operating procedures
Update and maintain Trust PGDs
Produce Pharmacy antimicrobial reports asrequired, demonstrating active engagement with clinicians to improveantimicrobial prescribing and practice.
Person SpecificationQualifications
* Degree in Pharmacy
* Registration with GPhC as a Pharmacist
* At least 4 years of post-registration experience
* Evidence of CPD
* Experience of working within a healthcare team
* Previous experience of working in a busy dispensary environment
* Previous hospital experience is desirable but not essential
* Previous experience of supervising and training other staff is essential
* Experience and skills in using computer programs and harnessing technology to enhance the Pharmacy service
* Previous experience of developing and undertaking audits, audit report writing and presentation of results
* Good interpersonal skills and ability to develop strong working relationships with colleagues
* Evidence of good customer service skills and awareness
