The role
Drive the reliability and performance of TasPorts' statewide electrical infrastructure by developing and implementing asset management strategies. This role provides technical leadership, supports operational teams, and ensures compliance with industry standards and safety regulations
Key Duties
As the Electrical Asset Engineer, you will be instrumental in ensuring the reliability, safety, and performance of TasPorts' electrical infrastructure across the state. Your responsibilities will span strategic planning, technical support, compliance, and continuous improvement. Key duties include:
* Developing and implementing asset management plans for critical electrical infrastructure, aligned with long-term capital programs and climate resilience strategies.
* Leading preventative maintenance initiatives using FMECA methodology to improve asset reliability and reduce downtime.
* Providing expert technical advice across project delivery, including scoping, budgeting, programming, and reviewing electrical specifications and documentation.
* Supporting operational teams with guidance on installation, maintenance, and decommissioning of electrical assets, ensuring alignment with industry best practices.
* Conducting audits and inspections to improve the accuracy and quality of asset data, and integrating findings into TasPorts' asset management systems.
* Analysing maintenance data to identify trends, performance gaps, and opportunities for reliability improvements.
* Contributing to strategic decisions around asset lifecycle planning, including upgrades, replacements, and decommissioning.
* Ensuring compliance with all relevant electrical standards, safety regulations, and environmental policies.
* Managing health, safety, environment, and quality assurance matters related to electrical infrastructure, and advising leadership on risk mitigation strategies.
* Maintaining and improving the electrical drawing management system and supporting the alignment of asset systems with ISO 55000 standards.
About you
You are a technically skilled and solutions-focused professional with a strong foundation in electrical engineering and asset management. You thrive in complex environments and bring a proactive, analytical mindset to problem-solving and continuous improvement. You're confident working independently and collaboratively, and you communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
You bring:
* A proven track record in electrical infrastructure maintenance, planning, and project delivery, ideally within industrial or public asset environments.
* Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret performance data and translate insights into actionable strategies.
* Experience working with asset management systems and contributing to ISO-aligned frameworks.
* A sound understanding of electrical standards, safety regulations, and environmental compliance.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and guide contractors, consultants, and internal teams.
* A commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence, with the ability to identify risks and implement effective controls.
* A collaborative approach to working across divisions and contributing to strategic planning and decision-making.
What you will have
* Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering or relevant trade qualifications
* Experience in electrical, mechanical, and civil maintenance
* Knowledge of electrical standards and safety regulations
* Strong planning, documentation, and stakeholder engagement skills
* A current driver's licence and ability to obtain an MSIC
