Casual Hourly Rates
Base rate: $42.76 per hour plus superannuation.
* Early afternoon shifts – 10 % extra
* Mid‑afternoon shifts – 12.5 % extra
* Saturday – 50 % loading
* Sunday – 75 % loading
Responsibilities
* Help create innovative, modern cuisine for our patients and staff.
* In conjunction with the Head Chef, train kitchen staff on all new menus and specials.
* Prepare meals for patients as per the national menu guide.
* Assist the Head Chef to manage food costs, stock control and staff management.
* Lead the kitchen in the absence of the Head Chef.
* Maintain flexible hours.
* Maintain hygiene, OH&S and overall kitchen cleanliness at all times, ensuring regular daily temperatures of refrigerators and freezers as per food‑safety standards.
* Strong understanding of the HACCP Food Safety Program.
* Maintain effective communication with management and facility staff.
* Lead, supervise, coach and develop team members, including cooks, kitchen hands and service staff, to deliver exceptional service.
Requirements
* Appropriate chef qualifications.
* Proven understanding of the specific health, dietary and texture modification food preparation requirements required in a hospital catering environment.
* Experience in large‑volume cookery, cold larder and bulk cookery with the ability to time‑manage and remain calm in a high‑pressure environment.
* Sound knowledge of HACCP regulations.
* Safe Food Handling Certificate (mandatory).
* Availability for shifts Monday to Thursday (weekend work is also available) with a minimum of 2–3 shifts per week; flexible to work various shifts commencing as early as 5 am with final shift ending no later than 7 pm.
* Two years of relevant experience.
* Experience in a hospital or aged‑care environment preferred.

If you are successful, you will receive a salary based on your years of relevant experience against the current Healthscope NSW Health Professionals Support Services Agreement 2023 with a salary range of $40.76 per hour (base rate) and the opportunity to earn up to $59.86 per hour (including casual loading and penalty rates).
Additional Requirements
Applicants will be required to provide a current National Police Check and a NSW Working with Children's Check prior to appointment. Persons in patient‑contact roles will also be required to provide proof of immunity to specified infectious diseases prior to commencement.
