Job Expectations
We are looking for candidates based in the Newcastle area, including those with trade, technical, and hands on practical backgrounds who may be considering a career change. People with experience in plumbing, carpentry, electrical work, construction, civils, hospitality, customer service, manufacturing, and similar fields have been highly successful in this position.
If you think this could be you, nbn can utilise your experience to develop you into a Customer Field Technician as part of our internal workforce.
Be a part of transforming Australia's digital landscape. In this hands‑on, customer‑facing role, you'll help connect homes and communities and see the difference you make every day.
A bit about your role
As a Customer Field Technician in Newcastle, you will work independently on customer service field tasks across a range of nbn technologies. This role involves installation, repair, maintenance, and direct customer interaction, primarily within homes and business premises.
Your day may include tasks such as installing copper and fibre cabling, completing customer premises equipment installations, diagnosing and repairing faults, and providing a high level of customer service. Working hours fall between 7am and 7pm, with flexibility applied based on business needs. Training, tools, and ongoing support will be provided.
A bit about you
You do not need any previous telecommunications experience. We will teach you the technical skills required. What matters most is your ability to work with your hands, solve problems, and communicate well with customers.
You may have a background in a trade, hands‑on technical role, or a customer‑focused environment. Experience from trades such as plumbing, carpentry, electrical work, general labouring, construction, mechanical work, hospitality, or manufacturing is highly valued.
You should be comfortable working independently, managing your time, and taking pride in delivering quality work. Strong communication skills and a current and clean Driver's Licence are also important.
