This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the delivery of critical road infrastructure and disaster recovery projects in one of Queensland's fastest‑growing regions. As a Project Engineer, you will support the planning, design and construction of transport infrastructure that improves safety, resilience and connectivity for local communities.
The role is delivery‑focused and provides hands‑on experience across live construction sites, contract administration and project support activities, working under the guidance of experienced engineers and project managers.
Position Overview
The Project Engineer supports the delivery of road infrastructure projects across planning, design, construction and recovery phases. Reporting to the Project Manager, the role assists with contract administration, site‑based construction support, technical coordination and stakeholder engagement to help ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with required standards.
The position may support major transport infrastructure projects or natural disaster recovery and reconstruction works.
Key Responsibilities
This role reports to the Project Manager and supports the delivery of road infrastructure projects through hands‑on, practical project and construction activities.
Responsibilities include:
• Support the delivery of road infrastructure projects by assisting with contract administration and providing technical support across design, construction and maintenance activities, under the guidance of senior engineering staff.
• Assist with the selection and administration of construction contracts, including monitoring contractor performance to ensure compliance with contractual, safety and quality requirements.
• Provide engineering support during planning and design phases, including reviewing drawings, specifications and scopes, to support project outcomes, value for money and best‑practice delivery. This role does not independently sign off on designs.
• Undertake site‑based construction support activities including site inspections, quality assurance checks, verification of works and regular liaison with contractors and supervisors.
• Assist with the development and review of project programs and schedules, including tracking progress and identifying risks or issues for escalation to senior engineers.
• Maintain effective working relationships with internal teams, contractors and external stakeholders to support the smooth delivery of projects.
This role will be supporting disaster recovery works, duties may also include:
• Assist with field inspections and condition assessments of road infrastructure damaged by natural disaster events, working alongside experienced engineers.
• Support the preparation and maintenance of project documentation, including scopes of work, drawings, progress reports, cost tracking and photographic records, in line with Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements requirements.
• Undertake preliminary technical assessments using relevant engineering standards and guidelines to support restoration works involving pavements, drainage, culverts and slope stabilisation. All technical work is reviewed by senior engineers.
This position is a PO3‑level role and is not responsible for independently managing projects, leading delivery teams or providing certified engineering sign‑off.
Mandatory Requirements
• Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) or equivalent recognised by Engineers Australia.
• Current Class C driver's licence and Construction Industry Induction (White Card).
• Ability to provide own PPE to meet site requirements.
• Willingness to undertake criminal history screening.
