Specialist Business is home to some of EnergyAustralia’s most innovative ventures developing cutting‑edge solutions like behind‑the‑meter assets, community batteries, solar and small‑scale battery systems, and embedded networks.

About the Role

As a

Senior Legal Counsel

in Specialist Businesses, this means working at the forefront of emerging energy technologies and regulatory frameworks, shaping agreements and compliance strategies that enable these pioneering offerings to thrive. If you’re passionate about applying your legal expertise to drive innovation and influence the future of energy, this is your opportunity to make a real impact.

Primary Legal contact for the Specialist Business units with a specific focus on the Customer Assets business (community batteries)

Independently draft and negotiate offtake agreements and other agreements relating to the development and deployment of community batteries

Assist with commercial disputes arising from time to time

Assist with regulatory advice relating to offtake agreements and related retail products (as required)

Provide advice on marketing and other collateral related to the Specialist Business unit

Actively manage stakeholder relationships

Draft and negotiate other agreements relating to the Specialist Business unit (and other business units as agreed) such as partner and referral agreements, channel agreements, and procurement agreements.

Autonomously drive continual improvement in Legal and Governance by designing tools (such as precedents), adopting new technology and adapting current processes and policies, with particular attention to reducing cost and simplification.

Design and deliver training to business unit colleagues to build their knowledge and capability and reduce their reliance on Legal and Governance for lower risk or routine matters

How can you support the Clean Energy Transition

Degree in Law and a current practicing certificate in Victoria.

8+years post qualification experience in a reputable Australian law firm or in‑house.

Experience giving advice in some of the following areas: off‑take agreements, drafting contracts and customer facing terms and conditions, marketing & sales, privacy, competition & consumer law, brand & IP, regulatory compliance matters and strategic initiatives

Experience in roles interpreting and distilling complex information to multiple stakeholders.

Robust communication skills and an ability to influence independent of hierarchy.

Strong conceptual thinking / strategic analysis skills.

Ability to work autonomously.

Ability to effectively manage change and negotiate the right outcomes for the business.

Proven analytical experience and problem‑solving skills.

Flexibility to handle a diverse range of matters across all business units
