About The Business Unit
The Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) provides a range of government programs and services focused on improving community safety, victim services, regulatory services and crime prevention. Corrections Victoria is part of the Corrections and Justice Services (CJS) group and operates Victoria's adult prison system, providing safe containment for people in custody and programs that support rehabilitation.
Workforce and Aboriginal Outcomes leads the design, development, implementation and monitoring of policies, programs and services aimed at reducing the over‐representation of Aboriginal people within the Victorian correctional system. This role sits within the Aboriginal Operational Strategic Supports division, responsible for policy, contracts, procurement, governance, secretariat functions and planning and reporting for Aboriginal programs and services.
About The Role
The General Manager Aboriginal Operations Strategic Support oversees a team that develops and monitors policies, programs and services that aim to support better outcomes for Aboriginal people in custody. The team manages contracts, procurement, budget, business planning, governance and secretariat services in this space. The role works closely with the General Manager Naalamba Ganbu, Nerrlinggu Yilam and other internal and external stakeholders focused on supporting Aboriginal people in custody and their transition back to community.
Some of Your Responsibilities Will Include
* Provide strategic management and leadership across the Aboriginal Operations Strategic Support team and support the Workforce and Aboriginal Outcomes division.
* Lead the development of policy relevant to Corrections Victoria's responsibilities for Aboriginal prisoners and offenders, ensuring that programs and services are consistent with government policy objectives.
* Ensure robust systems and processes are in place to support consistent, evidence‐based and timely decision‐making, efficient operations and a culture of continuous improvement.
About You
To be successful in this role you will have:
* Extensive knowledge and experience in planning, and the development and implementation of policy frameworks, including governance, compliance and reporting requirements.
* Detailed understanding of the issues impacting Aboriginal prisoners and offenders, government and community objectives and how they influence the programmes and services the department delivers.
* Excellent knowledge of Aboriginal culture and society and an understanding of historical and contemporary issues relating to Aboriginal Victorians.
* Strong knowledge of, and demonstrated experience in, working with Aboriginal communities and advisory groups, including sophisticated and culturally aware stakeholder engagement.
