Location: Canberra, Melbourne, Brisbane or Adelaide
Contract Term: 12 months + 2 × 12‑month extensions (up to 36 months total)

About the Role
Our Federal Government department is seeking a highly experienced Senior IBM DataStage ETL Software Engineer to join a major data integration and transformation program. You’ll play a key role in designing, developing and optimising enterprise ETL solutions that support mission‑critical services relied on by millions of Australians.
This is a senior engineering position ideal for a DataStage specialist who enjoys leading development work, solving complex data challenges, and working within a modern, hybrid government environment.
Key Responsibilities Design, develop and optimise ETL workflows using IBM InfoSphere DataStage (parallel, server, and sequence jobs). Work closely with business analysts, data architects and stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable technical solutions. Implement data quality, cleansing and validation processes. Monitor, troubleshoot and resolve ETL job performance issues, failures and data discrepancies. Enhance existing DataStage jobs to meet evolving business and reporting needs. Produce clear documentation for design, workflow logic and operational support. Ensure compliance with data governance, privacy and security standards. Provide technical leadership, guidance and best practice input into ETL development. Support release, deployment, configuration and integration activities across the platform. Skills & Experience Essential Strong experience with IBM DataStage across complex enterprise environments. Deep understanding of ETL concepts, data warehousing and dimensional modelling. Advanced SQL skills and experience with relational database technologies (Oracle, DB2, SQL Server, PostgreSQL). Experience integrating data from structured, semi‑structured and unstructured sources. Linux/UNIX shell scripting skills for automation and orchestration. Strong problem‑solving, debugging and analytical capability. Experience in an agile or hybrid delivery environment. Desirable Exposure to cloud data platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP). Experience with configuration management tools and processes. Familiarity with automated testing frameworks and CI/CD pipelines.
