The Role
Multicultural Australia is currently offering an opportunity for Cultural Support Workers to work as part of our Humanitarian Settlement Program. We are looking for individuals who speak Dari/Farsi, Kinyarwanda/Swahili, Rohingya and Pashto with lived experience from multicultural, migrant, refugee, or ethnic communities to support our work across Queensland.
These roles are casual and primarily based in Toowoomba, with travel required to surrounding areas.
CSWs are employed as advisors with lived experience, to participate in group consultations together with other CSWs to support Multicultural Australia and other service providers to design and deliver programs that meet the needs and interests of our diverse cultural and multicultural communities.
What You'll Be Doing:
* Provide culturally responsive support to individuals and families, helping them navigate services and overcome barriers faced by multicultural communities in Queensland.
* Assist clients in connecting to essential services, cultural networks, and social opportunities.
* Deliver orientation activities, including local area, household safety, and public transport training.
* Engage respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds, applying sound judgment, initiative, and discretion in all interactions.
* Assist with basic program tasks, including administrative support and maintaining accurate records.
* Provide emergency and crisis intervention under the direction of a Case Manager.
* Offer advice to Multicultural Australia teams about community needs and experiences.
* Provide feedback on services and programs to ensure accessibility and cultural appropriateness.
* Advise external organisations on culturally informed practices for engaging diverse communities.
* Utilise knowledge of Australian culture and systems relevant to client settlement, with the ability to convey important life skills to clients.
* Commit to social justice, human rights, and working with all cultural and religious communities.
Qualifications and Skills required:
* Diploma or Certificate IV in Community Services, Community Development, or a related discipline.
* Proficient language skills in both English and any of the languages - Rohingya, Kinyarwanda/Swahili, Dari/Farsi and Pashto.
* Valid Queensland Driver's Licence.
* Strong administration and records management skills, with proficiency in MS Office.
* Valid Blue Card (Working with Children Check).
* Fulfilment of all COVID-19 vaccination requirements as per employment conditions.
* Current Australian work authorisation is required at the time of application.
* Bilingual or multilingual skills relevant to client communities.
* Previous experience in community support, consultation, or advisory roles.
* Experience working within trauma-informed frameworks or with individuals with lived experience of displacement or migration.
* Willingness to drive a 7-seater vehicle to transport clients, ensuring safety and professionalism.
* Willingness to travel to various locations, including long-distance travel, as required for the role.
* Availability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, and night shifts, based on client or program needs.
* Ability to manage the physical and emotional demands of the role, including working under pressure.
