About the Role
Our client, a progressive and innovative local government organisation in the Goulburn Murray region, is seeking an experienced
Senior Planning & Development Leader
to join their team. This is a unique opportunity to shape land use and development across a large regional area while contributing to sustainable growth and vibrant communities.
As the Senior Planning & Development Leader, you will provide strategic and statutory planning expertise to support integrated, sustainable development outcomes. You will lead a team of planners and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to deliver high-quality planning solutions across the municipality.
Key responsibilities
Managing complex planning applications, scheme amendments, and development projects.
Providing expert planning advice to staff, management, stakeholders, and the community.
Representing the organisation at hearings, panels, and relevant forums.
Leading strategic planning initiatives to guide sustainable growth and land-use policy.
Managing, mentoring, and developing a team of planning professionals.
Ensuring compliance with planning legislation, regulations, and organisational policies.
Coordinating public consultation programs and fostering strong community engagement.
Delivering departmental objectives, including budgeting, reporting, and service improvements.
Key Selection Criteria
Degree in Planning or related field, with 3-5 years' experience in a senior planning role (Local Government experience highly desirable).
Expert understanding of the Victorian planning system, statutory planning processes, and planning policy development.
Demonstrated ability to think strategically, analyse complex situations, and develop creative solutions.
Strong leadership and people-management skills, with the ability to mentor and motivate staff.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder-engagement skills.
Proven ability to deliver outcomes within tight timelines and manage competing priorities.
Current Victorian Driver's Licence and National Police Check.
