Primary objective
Manage and develop public relations activity to enhance positive destination and event awareness and reputation of the
Northern Territory as a visitor destination, aligning with the strategic objectives of Tourism and Events NT.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Manage the development, delivery and reporting of Tourism and Events NT's public relations programs, including leading
strategy across all earned media.
2. Manage external PR agencies to maintain a consistent press room and execute ad-hoc projects, ambassadorships,
activations and campaigns.
1. Collaborate with team members to develop and implement fully integrated communications campaigns.
2. Develop and implement the public relations unit's media hosting program.
3. Negotiate, manage and execute major media and brand partnerships and integrations across multiple channels, including
TV, radio, digital and podcasts.
6. Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with key media contacts, tourism operators, regional tourism organisations,
and other industry stakeholders to achieve desirable PR outcomes.
7. Facilitate reporting procedures, including developing and monitoring systems that track and measure team activities and
performances against campaign goals, objectives and budget.
8. Represent the Northern Territory's PR interests at conferences, local industry meetings or similar events, as required.
9. Provide PR counsel, key messaging and support to other teams and senior executives as needed.
10.Oversee the day-to-day management of the PR Coordinator and PR budget.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Substantial experience in successfully leading strategy and managing consumer public relations programs, with a strong
focus on earned media.
2. Significant project management experience with success at delivering multiple projects on time and within budget.
1. Ability to work within a dynamic, collaborative team environment and communicate effectively with people of diverse
cultures.
1. Advanced written and oral communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and persuasively.
2. Existing relationships and experience in negotiating with key media to achieve set objectives, including destination and
major-event related coverage.
1. In-depth understanding of the Australian media landscape, with the ability to adapt strategies for broader markets as
required.
1. Demonstrated leadership and people management skills, including the ability to manage agencies to deliver set outcomes
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in PR, communications, marketing, or a related discipline.
2. Understanding of tourism and events and in particular the Northern Territory tourism and events industry and
destination.
3. Experience working within integrated marketing teams spanning social, content and paid, in addition to earned media.
