About us
The Medical Team sits within the Health Professional Workforce Unit within the Workforce Planning and Talent Development branch in the Ministry of Health.
The Health Professional Workforce Unit (HPWU) provides specialist workforce knowledge on the scope of health professional workforces, workforce modelling, and the impact of education, training, and accreditation on workforce supply. HPWU provides specialist knowledge across medical, nursing, midwifery, allied health, Aboriginal Health Practitioners, and paramedicine, including credentialing and education requirements. It liaises on workforce policy with Commonwealth, State, and Territory health departments and collaborates with education and accreditation bodies. Internally, HPWU works with clinicians, NSW Health agencies and Local Health Districts/Specialty Health Networks to address workforce challenges and support innovative models of care through workforce and scope of practice reform.

About the role
NSW Health is seeking an experienced Aboriginal medical specialist to lead a strategic project that will shape the Aboriginal medical workforce in NSW Health.
The Staff Specialist Aboriginal Medical Advisor will lead a project to identify the barriers and enablers affecting Aboriginal medical students and junior doctors in pursuing and completing specialist training pathways in NSW Health. This project will develop clear, actionable recommendations on how NSW Health can strengthen supports for Aboriginal doctors to thrive across the continuum of the training pathway including vocational training and specialist practice.
Working within the Health Professionals Workforce Unit, the Advisor will provide expert cultural and clinical leadership, collaborating with the Aboriginal Workforce Team, Aboriginal Workforce Transformation Unit, and key partners including HETI, AIDA, medical colleges, training networks, and Local Health Districts. The role includes extensive consultation and engagement across NSW, particularly with Aboriginal medical students, trainees, and senior clinicians.

What you'll be doing

About you
