About the role
We are seeking a Group Accountant to join our Finance team on a full-time basis. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of skills, traits, and values that align with the organisation's mission and culture. As part of a collaborative team, you will work effectively with colleagues from various departments, be approachable, communicative, and willing to share knowledge and expertise to achieve common goals.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial reporting – Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial results and statements for the group. Conduct month-end reconciliations.
2. Stakeholder management – Collaborate with establishment managers and stakeholders to provide financial insights, procedures, and support strategic initiatives.
3. Budget and Forecasting – Assist in preparing budgets and forecasts; monitor financial performance against these benchmarks.
4. Compliance – Complete statutory returns such as BAS, Bureau of Statistics, and grant acquittals.
5. Audit Coordination – Liaise with internal and external auditors and manage the audit process to ensure timely and accurate completion.
6. Finance Analysis – Conduct detailed financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
7. System Improvements – Identify and implement enhancements to financial systems and processes for better efficiency and accuracy.
8. Grant Acquittal Process – Oversee the grant acquittal process, including preparing and submitting financial reports to grant providers, ensuring compliance with all conditions and timelines.
9. Property Accounting – Manage financial aspects of the group's property portfolio, including acquisitions, disposals, valuations, and lease accounting. Ensure accurate and timely reporting of property-related financial information.
Qualifications & Experience
- Relevant degree in Accounting or Commerce with extensive experience in a similar role.
- CPA/ICAA qualified or working towards.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly.
- Ability to identify issues, propose solutions, and implement changes effectively.
- Demonstrated knowledge of financial management, accounting systems, and principles.
- Experience in preparing and monitoring budgets and financial statements.
- Willingness to undergo a Criminal History Check.
- Achievement of YMCA's Safeguarding Children Training Certificate and annual refresher training.
