In 2022, Red Earth Engineering Pty Ltd (REE) joine d the Geosyntec family of companies, bringing with them some of the very best expertise in the mine tailings and water dam sectors. We now have over 110 practitioners across the country, with offices in Perth, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Gold Coast.
We are now the tailings and geotechnical consultant of choice for several major mining companies with operations in Australia. As an example of our commitment to leading the industry in innovation and technical excellence, we have recently announced the establishment of an advanced testing facility led by Dr. David Reid. Our expertise, combined with REE's world-class reputation in hydrogeology, geochemistry, geotechnical engineering, seismicity and risk allows us to assist our client in meeting their engineering challenges and better understanding their risk.

We have an opportunity available for a Principal Geologist to join our Perth office (66 St Georges Terrace, Perth WA This full-time position is well-suited for a qualified, experienced individual who is interested in contributing to and managing innovative and challenging projects. You will interact with a highly integrated, multi-disciplinary team of professionals throughout Europe, North America and Australia, and will provide leadership and client development, specifically related to geological modelling, resource estimation and mineral reporting services in the mining industry.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Collaboration and mentoring are cornerstones of REE's culture.
We operate under a sell-manage-do culture, and so we expect that you'd work on challenging technical projects while leveraging your existing knowledge and experience to help Geosyntec expand its current practices and capabilities through business development and client management.
You may also be asked to take on project management responsibilities, along with staff management and development, and mentoring tasks.
Some Of The Key Responsibilities Include
Developing business opportunities with new and existing clients and preparing associated proposals.
Lead geological modelling, data validation, resource estimation and mineral resource reporting efforts for mining sector clients
Leading geostatistical analysis, quality control analysis, due diligence and database management
Managing, training and mentoring of early- and mid-career staff
Alignment with REE's Sell/Manage/Do model
Business Development of Mining Market Sector (Sell)
Working closely with REE's existing Mining Engineering and Resource Services (MERS) team to:
Lead and contribute to the delivery of studies (Do/Manage);
Analyses (as required), proposal and report writing, producing high quality deliverables (Do);
Develop a team to grow MERS (Manage)
Collaboration with REE's Mining High Growth Area (HGA) initiative.
Education and Licensure
Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering, geology, or a related field. (required)
Advanced degree in earth science, environmental engineering, or a related field. (preferred)
Professional registration, if applicable.
Skills, Experience And Qualifications
At least 10 years (15+ preferred) of directly relevant experience in a consulting environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
Ability to succeed in a fast‑paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed. (required)
High standard of technical geological and ore forming processes knowledge across a broad range of typical commodities.
Demonstrated experience working within industry/operations, with a strong understanding of how technical decisions impact production, cost, risk, and business outcomes.
Proven track record of leading and developing technical teams, including mentoring junior staff, delegating effectively, and fostering a high‑performance, collaborative culture.
Strong client‑facing skills, including the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable recommendations for non‑technical stakeholders.
Experience managing projects end‑to‑end — scope, budget, schedule, deliverables — with a commitment to quality, defensibility, and transparent communication.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including preparation and review of high‑quality technical reports, proposals, and presentations.
