New Porgera Limited (NPL) is a company incorporated in Papua New Guinea and owns the Porgera Gold Mine in Enga Province. The Porgera Gold Mine will employ nearly 3,000 Papua New Guineans at full production, and over the last 30 years of life of the mine it has contributed approximately 10% of Papua New Guinea's total annual exports.
About the role
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Medium Term Planning Engineer – Open Pit to join our Mining Technical Services Team. Reporting to the Manager Technical Services, you will be responsible for developing and optimizing mine plans over a 3–24 month horizon, ensuring safe and efficient delivery of ore and waste schedules in line with Life-of-Mine strategy, budgets, and operational targets. Acting as the link between short-term execution and long-term planning, the role prepares pit designs, pushbacks, and haulage profiles while considering geotechnical, safety, and productivity requirements. Key responsibilities include scenario analysis, equipment and sequence optimization, budget and forecast contributions, and alignment with geology and production teams. You will also be responsible to mentor junior engineers, driving continuous improvement in planning processes and systems, and preparing technical reports and presentations for management and stakeholders.
You will model safety behaviours and coach and develop your team, working with your team to assess and manage risk. NPL operates in a complex environment that requires the successful applicant to be a self-starter, with strong ability in delivery to support the mines successful operation whilst coordinating the efforts of your team members to complete projects according to plan in a timely and safe manner.
About you
As the successful applicant, you will hold a Bachelor's Degree in mining engineering or equivalent and at least 10 years of open pit mine planning experience, ideally in gold or hard rock operations. Candidates should have a strong background in medium-term planning, pit optimization, and truck-shovel operations, with proficiency in Deswik software and knowledge of geotechnical and ore blending considerations. Experience mentoring junior engineers, excellent analytical, communication, and report-writing skills are essential, while exposure to large, complex, and remote or international mining environments is advantageous. Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills are key competencies for success in this role.

This role is offered on a FIFO basis either from Papua New Guinea or Australia/New Zealand with a 21/14 roster on a contract basis with a highly competitive remuneration package.
