The Financial Operations Team provide core enabling services, support and advice across a number of functions: accounts receivable and payable, credit cards and travel. The team is client focussed and works collaboratively with other corporate teams and across the department to deliver high quality outcomes. The team works within the Financial Management Branch, Finance, Strategy, Budget and Research Division. The Branch also includes the SAP Services, Financial Accounting, Procurement and Contract Management and Grants and Financial Assurance teams.
The key duties of the position include:
What will you do?
You will lead a team of staff across a diverse range of functions to support the day-to-day financial operations of the department. This includes accounts receivable and payable, credit cards and travel. You will work collaboratively with other corporate teams and stakeholders across the department to deliver high quality services to support the department in delivering its outcomes. You will liaise with and build relationships with external stakeholders including suppliers and other government organisations.
Specifically, the duties of the Director, Financial Operations include:
* Leading the core work of the Financial Operations section, including ensuring the requirements of the section (accounts receivable and payable, travel and credit cards) are delivered in line with our service offer.
* Leading the Financial Operations staff by creating a culture where staff are able to deliver high quality services in a collaborative manner, where they feel empowered to take on challenges in a supportive environment and provide stakeholder focussed advice and support to deliver the department’s outcomes.
* Leading strategic considerations in areas of uplift, including process improvements to achieve greater efficiencies, improved client service or improvement in compliance and assurance.
* Supporting the department’s financial non-compliance policy through financial integrity assurance work.
* Supporting the department in the implementation of a new Enterprise Resource Planning system.
* Supporting whole of Australian Government policy and initiatives through representation on interdepartmental working groups (e.g. travel and climate reporting).

The successful candidate for this position will be able to demonstrate their capability against the Executive Level 2 Work level standards.

* Be accountable for developing, coaching and mentoring employees, performance management, conflict resolution, and identification of training needs.
* Communicate effectively both written and verbal, delivering information in a variety of formats for a range of audiences.
* Collaborate across diverse teams, using your exceptional interpersonal and engagement skills to engage with senior leaders and a wide variety of stakeholders, valuing different perspectives, contributions and backgrounds.
* Identify and lead innovation solutions, providing leadership in implementing and promoting change and continuous improvement in the workplace.
Previous experience leading a financial operations team is required.

Employment with the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts is subject to conditions prescribed within the Public Service Act 1999 including:
* Citizenship: candidates must be an Australian citizen at the time of submitting your application.
* Health Assessment: The preferred candidate may be required to undergo a medical examination conducted by the department’s preferred medical provider.
* Security Clearance: The successful candidate must be able to obtain and/or maintain a security clearance at baseline vetting. You must be willing to disclose all relevant and required information. You must have lived in Australia, or have a checkable background, for at least the preceding five years for Baseline Vetting clearances. * Police check: The successful candidate must satisfactory complete an Australian Federal Police criminal history check.
* Integrity and Performance check: The successful candidate must satisfy the requirements in an Integrity and Performance check which is completed by your most recent employer.
