Summary
Reporting to the Site Manager or Group Lead, the Laboratory Technician is primarily responsible for processing fresh samples and supporting laboratory experiments through cells, reagents and solution preparation. The role also includes managing solutions, consumables, labels, and maintaining inventory. In addition, the Laboratory Technician is responsible for sample management activities such as receiving, logging, inventorying, and labelling samples, reagents, and materials, all in accordance with laboratory standards, safety protocols, and quality assurance requirements.
Responsibilities
More specifically, you will participate in the following:
* Cells isolation from human samples using aseptic techniques.
* Perform cryopreservation, thawing and counting with strict adherence to SOPs.
* Support lab operations: Perform solution/reagent preparation. Thawing cells and sample pre-processing.
* Receive, label, log, and store samples and reagents per SOPs and LIMS.
* Support shipment preparation and execute/document sample destruction.
* Support equipment maintenance and inventory.
* Perform tasks and maintain documentation as per appropriate SOP and applicable GLP regulations and GCLP guidelines.
Education
* Diploma in Laboratory Sciences.
Main Requirements
* Experience with PBMC (isolation by Ficoll or CPT, cryopreservation, thawing, counting with hemocytometer) required;
* Experience working in a biological safety cabinet under sterile conditions;
* 1 year experience in a laboratory, an asset;
* Experience in a GLP/GCLP environment, an asset;
* Organized and rigorous in the conduct of their work;
* Good record keeping skills and attention to detail;
* Dynamic and motivated.
Working Conditions
* 100% onsite;
* Schedule: Full-time. Standard hours are Monday–Friday, with a Tuesday–Saturday rotation at least twice per month.
* Available Shifts: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM or 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM.
* Must accept to perform activities in a Biosafety Level (BSL) 1 or 2 laboratory where biological samples may be either naturally or experimentally infected with potentially hazardous viruses such as HIV, HCV, or CMV.
