Job Description: Tax AgentPosition Overview
We are seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Tax Agent to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing, reviewing, and lodging tax returns for individuals and businesses while ensuring compliance with all relevant taxation laws and regulations. This role requires strong analytical skills, excellent communication, and a commitment to delivering high-quality client service.
Key ResponsibilitiesTax Preparation & Compliance
- Prepare and lodge individual, partnership, trust, SMSF, and company tax returns.
- Review financial records, statements, and relevant documents to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Advise clients on allowable deductions, tax offsets, and strategies to minimise tax liability within legal frameworks.
- Ensure all tax lodgments meet ATO deadlines and regulatory requirements.
Client Advisory & Support
- Provide taxation advice tailored to the needs of individuals and businesses.
- Assist clients in understanding their tax obligations and resolving any ATO-related queries.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships through proactive communication and follow-ups.
Recordkeeping & Documentation
- Maintain accurate and organised tax records for all assigned clients.
- Keep digital and physical files updated in accordance with internal policies and legal requirements.
- Prepare supporting documentation and respond to ATO audits or reviews as needed.
Professional Development & Compliance
- Stay up to date with tax legislation, ATO updates, and industry best practices.
- Maintain registration with the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB).
- Participate in training sessions and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Registration as a Tax Agent with the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) (or eligibility to register).
- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Taxation, Commerce, or related fields.
- Strong knowledge of Australian tax laws and compliance requirements.
- Experience with tax software (e.g., Xero Tax, MYOB, HandiTax, Reckon APS, or similar).
- High attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple client files simultaneously.
Preferred Skills (Desirable)
- Experience working in a public practice or tax-focused environment.
- Knowledge of BAS, IAS, GST, FBT, and payroll compliance.
- Ability to interpret complex tax legislation and apply it effectively.
- Strong client service orientation.

Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $50,058.20 – $98,708.16 per year
