We're on the lookout for a versatile full‑time IT Specialist/Tech Allrounder to join our IT team and help contribute to the ongoing improvement and innovation of technology across the business.
Who are we?
Tasmanian Independent Retailers (TIR) is a retailer‑owned co‑operative established in 1947, operating under IGA Tasmania and Island Fresh Produce (IFP). IFP manages the distribution of fresh fruit and vegetables to our retailers and food service customers. TIR supports members under the IGA banner with supplier trading terms, advertising, equipment, product ranging, pricing, promotions, and store development.
About the role
This is a hands‑on role for a tech allrounder who can move seamlessly from plugging in a network cable to building PCs, configuring networks, and writing Python scripts. If you enjoy problem‑solving, learning new tools, and staying ahead of tech trends, you'll thrive here.
You'll also work closely with our IT vendors to deliver robust, reliable solutions. We're looking for someone who's not just technically capable, but genuinely passionate about technology, curious about emerging trends like AI, scripting, and automation, and committed to staying ahead of the curve.
Key Responsibilities
Support & Operations
* Provide IT support to our corporate office, Island Fresh Produce, Brighton IGA, and ad‑hoc technical support to all other stores as required
* Collaborate with key POS providers to maintain and optimise POS systems, including data support, hardware troubleshooting, and software maintenance
* Respond to and resolve technical issues promptly
Infrastructure & Security
* Manage networks, servers, backups, and security protocols
* Monitor cybersecurity measures to protect systems and data
* Collaborate with vendors on project work and to troubleshoot complex problems
Automation & Insights
* Develop automation scripts using Python
* Build dashboards and insights with Power BI and Power Apps
* Assist with technology rollouts and system upgrades
* Explore emerging technologies such as AI and cloud automation
What you'll bring
* A genuine passion for technology and helping people
* Strong communication skills for engaging with store managers, staff, and vendors
* Proven IT support experience (retail experience is highly desirable)
* Hands‑on expertise in: Windows Server & Active Directory, Networking (firewalls, switches, VPNs, Windows OS & Microsoft Office Suite & Apple devices)
* Cybersecurity knowledge and practical experience
* Python scripting and data handling skills
* Interest in Power BI, Power Apps, and automation tools
* Ability to manage multiple priorities and remain calm under pressure
* Flexibility to travel statewide and work occasional weekends
* Hold a current Tasmanian Driver's License
Requirements
* Certificate IV or Diploma in IT (Bachelor's degree is an advantage)
* 2+ years in IT support or systems administration
* Permanent Australian resident or citizen with full working rights
