Your impact
Jacobs is seeking a Senior Associate Secondary Engineer to join our Melbourne High Voltage Substations team; this is an exciting opportunity for Australian based professionals who are interested in relocating to Melbourne.
Key Areas of Focus
- Provide daily people leadership for the Secondary and Protection team, including coaching, career development, resource planning, workload management and supporting team wellbeing.
- Lead concept, tender, and detailed engineering for secondary, protection, and control systems across transmission and distribution projects.
- Collaborate within multidisciplinary and geographically distributed teams to deliver projects safely, on time, and within budget.
- Provide technical input alongside high‐level review and assurance of engineering outputs including protection, metering, and control schemes.
- Electrical single line diagrams.
- Relay coordination studies and short circuit analyses.
- Protection settings, logic configurations, and interlocking/inter tripping schemes.
- IEC 61850 substation communication systems.
- Act as a trusted technical advisor on complex projects, working closely with Design Managers and Project Managers.
- Contribute to client engagement and relationship development.
- Provide oversight and support across bid preparation, service estimates, and method statements.
Here's what you'll need
- Demonstrated people management experience, or the ability to clearly show leadership capability within a geographically diverse, matrix environment.
- Extensive experience delivering secondary systems engineering for high‐voltage transmission and distribution substations.
- Advanced capability in IEC 61850 system architecture and implementation.
- Highly developed problem‐solving skills with the ability to lead and manage complex technical design challenges.
- Clear, confident, and professional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent working knowledge of industry standards and regulatory frameworks (e.g. National Electricity Rules, AEMO Guidelines).
