Full-time trauma-informed family support worker

The REACH Family Support Worker provides trauma‐informed, strengths‐based outreach and therapeutic support to young people aged 12–17 years and their families engaged with the Broadmeadow Children's Court. The role works collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders to address the underlying drivers of offending and family violence, improve safety and wellbeing, and support positive long‐term outcomes for young people and their families.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Therapeutic Support and Client Engagement

* Apply trauma‐informed, child‐centred and strengths‐based approaches when working with young people and families.
* Build positive, therapeutic and professional relationships with young people and families through trauma‐informed, strengths‐based and culturally responsive practice.
* Support behaviour change interventions and de‐escalation strategies relating to adolescent violence, as well as broader interventions targeting domestic and family violence.
* Reinforce emotional regulation, communication and conflict resolution strategies with families and young people.
* Deliver individual and group‐based interventions to support skill development, emotional regulation and positive behavioural outcomes.
* Support young people and families to build independent living skills, access appointments and engage with community‐based supports and services.
* Work within a whole‐of‐family framework to strengthen family functioning, safety and relationships.
* Maintain awareness of coercive control, family dynamics and intergenerational trauma impacts.

Case Management, Assessment and Planning

* Participate in assessment, case planning, review and exit processes to ensure interventions remain aligned with identified goals, safety planning and client outcomes.
* Assist with safety planning specific to DFV risk and family conflict.
* Make referrals to programs and services that support positive outcomes for young people and their families.
* Complete program outcome measures and data collection tools as required.
* Maintain accurate case notes and outcome tracking documentation.

Court and Outreach Responsibilities

* Attend court listings at local Children's Courts, including Broadmeadow and Raymond Terrace to support current families and potential referred families.
* Provide court‐based support and warm referrals to increase engagement in services.
* Deliver outreach support across a range of settings including courts, homes, schools, hospitals, community locations and emergency accommodation.
* Manage workload effectively and work flexibly across outreach, court and community settings to meet program and client needs.
* Work flexible hours, including evenings where required, to support young people and families.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement

* Work as part of a multi‐disciplinary team including social work and clinical to provide therapeutic intervention targeted towards individual client and family needs.
* Work with and alongside external stakeholders including Justice Health, DCJ, Police, Education and other NGOs in a collaborative manner, in line with best practice guidelines.

Risk Management and Child Protection

* Follow Allambi risk assessment procedure when visiting and meeting families for the first time, and ongoing.
* Respond appropriately to crises, safety concerns and critical incidents, including completion of incident reporting, mandatory reporting and consultation with management in line with organisational policy and legislative requirements.
* Ensure the Case Work Manager and/or Manager is informed of critical incidents, particularly where child protection concerns or staff debriefing requirements arise.
* Maintain safe and responsible driving practices at all times, including while operating company vehicles.

Professional Practice and Organisational Responsibilities

* Maintain professional practice through ongoing training, adherence to organisational policies and promotion of Allambi Care values, RAP principles and therapeutic frameworks.
* Ensure professional and ethical conduct is maintained at all times.
* Undertake additional duties as directed by management, consistent with the scope and responsibilities of the role.

Essential Requirements

* Diploma Level Qualification or working towards qualification, in Community Services, psychology, social work, occupational therapy, psychiatric nursing, Human Services or similar. Proof of qualification is required.
* Willingness to undertake role specific training.
* Experience in working with children, young people and families with potential of complex and difficult emotional and behavioural issues.
* Skills to engage with the family members of the children, young people and participants, work with families, and assist in the maintenance of appropriate family relationships.
* Demonstrated autonomy when supporting multiple teams and clients.
* Knowledge of Needs Based Framework, TCI concepts and strategies.
* Knowledge of State regulatory standards.
* Strong knowledge of Allambi Care policies and procedures.
* High level written, communication and time management skills.

Desirable

* Qualifications, training or certificates in trauma‐informed services are desirable.
* 2 years experience working with children and young people in an outreach setting.
