Role: Work, Health and Safety Officer

The Opportunity
We have an opportunity for a proactive and committed individual to support Council in meeting its Work Health and Safety (WHS) obligations across field and corporate environments. The position provides on‐the‐job training, mentoring and support to employees, contractors and volunteers to ensure effective implementation of Council’s WHS management system, including safety policies, procedures and practices.
Responsibilities
- Conduct regular WHS compliance inspections and audits to identify non‐compliance and work with operational teams to improve safety systems.
- Support the investigation of incidents to determine root causes and recommend prevention and continuous improvement strategies.
- Educate employees, volunteers and contractors regarding safety management, WHS policies and new legislation, regulations and standards.
- Assist in developing, implementing and monitoring safety management systems.
- View and interpret relevant WHS legislation and Codes of Practice; apply findings to practice.
Qualifications
- Certificate IV level qualification in WHS or related discipline with practical experience in WHS or a similar field.
- Strong analytical, investigative and problem‐solving skills.
- High level written and verbal communication skills; ability to liaise and influence internal and external stakeholders regarding WHS.
- Experience in developing and implementing safety management systems.
Benefits and Terms
This is a permanent, full‐time position working 35 hours per week. The total remuneration package commences at $99,776.77 gross per annum, comprising:
- $1,713.20 per week base salary
- $205.58 per week superannuation (calculated at 12%)
