The Department is looking for suitably qualified applicants for the role of Senior Finance Officer. This is an expected vacancy/vacancies due to arise in the Finance Office. An order of merit may be developed through this process to fill multiple positions in an ongoing/non-ongoing capacity as the circumstances dictate at the time. The Finance Office, within the Members' and Corporate Support program overseen by the Serjeant-at-Arms, supports the work of the House of Representatives and its committees through the provision of financial services and resource management guidance. By working collaboratively with business areas, the office manages internal and external budgetary requirements along with statutory and management financial reporting. The team delivers financial processing services and provides tailored financial information and procurement advice to assist internal stakeholders deliver outcomes. About the role The Senior Finance Officer, under limited direction, undertakes complex finance and procurement related activities and tasks. The Senior Finance Officer works collaboratively within a small team and is responsible for providing operational support, detailed technical, professional, and policy advice in relation to finance and procurement and will assist in policy development to achieve the objectives of the office. The Senior Finance Officer has an understanding of legislative, regulatory and compliance frameworks, demonstrates excellent communication skills within their area of responsibility and values and nurtures a culture of innovation and service delivery. The key duties of the position include The Senior Finance Officer will carry out the following duties: Manage and report on financial transactions and perform general accounting duties including period end processes, journals, income and expense schedules, data imports and exports and monthly reconciliations. Assist with the development, implementation and maintenance of departmental policy and procedures and perform operational and reporting tasks in accordance with current legislation and the objectives of the office. Build effective working relationships with all stakeholders and assist with the development, management and presentation of effective methods to educate and inform staff regarding departmental policies and procedures. Contribute to monthly and annual financial statement reporting processes, compliance reporting and business planning and performance monitoring. Provide guidance and assistance to other areas of the department in relation to financial and procurement matters. Travel and expense management including system support, contract management and providing training and support to clients. Other financial and administrative tasks required by the section, as directed.
