We are seeking a reliable and hands-on Truck Driver & Nursery Assistant to join our wholesale nursery team in Dromana. This varied role combines local truck driving, order preparation, dispatch operations, and hands-on plant handling within a well‑organised nursery environment.

You'll be driving a brand new IZUZU HR Truck, offering excellent ergonomic driver comfort and modern technology assistance, while completing regular plant deliveries across South East Melbourne and surrounding areas.
Our largest plants are supplied in 20cm diameter pots (4 litres), weighing approximately 3kg each. Plants are hand loaded onto transport trolleys, which are hand pushed or pulled — there is no handling of large, heavy or advanced trees.

This position suits someone who enjoys physical outdoor work, takes pride in presentation, values safety, and likes variety between driving, dispatch, and nursery‑based tasks in a supportive, team‑focused workplace.


Key Responsibilities


Truck Driving & Deliveries

* Safely pick up and deliver nursery stock across South East Melbourne and nearby regions using company vehicles.
* Merchandise plants at Trade Markets and customer sites, including arranging displays, maintaining stands, and ensuring high presentation standards.
* Manage delivery schedules in collaboration with the Production Manager and Sales Team.
* Conduct daily pre‑start checks, maintain vehicle cleanliness, and assist with servicing and repair coordination.
* Report any incidents, defects, or hazards promptly.
* Comply with all transport and road safety regulations.


Nursery & Yard Stock Management

* Assist with picking, packing, labelling, and preparing plant orders for dispatch.
* Maintain plant quality and presentation when handling and moving stock.
* Organise trolleys, stillages, and shuttle trays for deliveries and pickups.
* Facing up stock.
* Weeding, watering, and maintaining plant health.
* Returning poor‑quality or damaged stock.
* Identify and report any plant quality issues from the field.


Dispatch Systems

* Support efficient truck loading in line with order requirements.
* Use iPads and scanners to process and complete orders.
* Maintain a clean, organised, and safe dispatch area in accordance with OHS standards.
* Assist with basic sales paperwork and pass customer or yard enquiries on to the Sales Team.


Nursery & Landscape Team Support

* Assist with general nursery and landscape duties, including picking and packing orders, moving stock, and maintaining plant areas.
* Safely operate a forklift throughout the nursery as required.


General Duties

* Follow safe work procedures and contribute to a strong safety‑first culture.
* Communicate effectively with supervisors, management, and team members.
* Work independently where required and undertake hands‑on manual tasks.
* Carry out additional duties as directed by the Dispatch Supervisor, Nursery Manager, or Management.


Physical Requirements

* Physically fit and capable of lifting, carrying, bending, and repetitive manual tasks.
* Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
* Willing to perform hands‑on, physical work daily.


Skills & Experience

* MR or HR Truck Licence (minimum 12 months experience preferred).
* Strong communication and customer service skills.
* Reliable, organised, and able to follow procedures.
* Good eye for plant quality and presentation.
* Ability to work both independently and within a team.
* Basic digital literacy (iPad/scanner experience advantageous).


Licences & Qualifications

* MR or HR Truck Licence – mandatory.
* Forklift Licence (LF) – preferred.
* Horticulture or nursery experience – advantageous but not essential.
