* Full-time role - 35 hours per week FlexTime
* Parramatta or upon negotiation - hybrid working supported
* Salary ranges from $124,322 to $138,494 super leave loading

Our Science Impact and Assessment branch is currently seeking to appoint a Senior Scientist in a permanent ongoing capacity.

As a Senior Scientist you will play a pivotal role in shaping evidence-based decisions that protect and enhance NSWs environment. You will work within a team of scientists in the Biodiversity Indicator Program to guide development and delivery of high-quality biodiversity reporting that informs decision making and supports better outcomes for nature across NSW. You will lead high quality scientific programs, provide expert analysis and translate complex data into insights that support policy planning and conservation outcomes. With a commitment to scientific excellence and collaboration you will drive innovation and contribute to a culture that values knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.

In this role you will work across multidisciplinary teams and partner with research organisations, government agencies and stakeholders to deliver impactful science. You will guide project delivery, manage resources and uphold rigorous scientific standards to ensure outcomes that support resilient ecosystems, thriving communities and sustainable development across the state.


About You

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Scientist who brings deep scientific expertise, sound judgement and a collaborative mindset. You are passionate about delivering science that informs real world decisions, advances environmental stewardship and builds trust through transparency and integrity.


You will:

* have demonstrated experience in developing and delivering robust scientific workflows
* have demonstrated experience in analysis of complex ecological data
* have well-developed knowledge and experience in biodiversity and ecology
* be experienced in GIS and statistical programming languages (e.g. R, Python)
* excel at communicating complex ideas clearly to diverse audiences
* build strong relationships across teams and external partners to foster knowledge exchange
* manage projects effectively, prioritise tasks and support colleagues to achieve shared outcomes
* approach challenges with curiosity, resilience and creativity, adapting to change and driving improvement
* demonstrate commitment to data quality, open communication and ethical practice in all aspects of work


Essential Requirements

* Relevant science degree qualification

The Department of Climate Change Energy the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) works to protect the state's environment and heritage. It leads the way on climate change, driving the sustainable transition to a net zero economy powered by affordable, reliable and clean energy.

DCCEEW conserves and protects the state's natural environment. It manages the NSW national park estate including its rich and diverse biodiversity and Aboriginal cultural heritage for future generations.

DCCEEW also ensures sustainable management of water resources across the state to support the environment, communities and industry.

We acknowledge the ongoing custodial responsibilities of the Aboriginal peoples of NSW to care for Country and water and are committed to establishing meaningful partnerships with Aboriginal peoples in the management of the environment.
