Position: Stage Mechanist / Fly Operator (Full-time / Casual)

Salary: Casual $37-43/hr + super (Based on experience)

Venue: The Concourse Performing Arts Centre, Chatswood

FLY SYSTEM:

The Concourse Theatre and Concert Hall are fitted with a state of the art powered winch line fly system. The flybars operate on a powered winch system and are controlled by a Waagner Biro CAT System can be operated PS and OP at stage level, Gallery 2 and Gallery 3. There are 4 motorised Jands JLX Lighting bars, 1 flying projection screen, 1x 12” Tri Truss driven by 4x 500kg motors.

Required:

1. Minimum of 2 years experience in a performing arts centre, theatre, production company or related industry is considered necessary or similar experience
2. Demonstrated experience and high-level understanding of technical equipment used in performance spaces of this kind.
3. Physical fitness and ability to comfortably work at heights.
4. Expert level competency on in-house equipment relevant to the department.

VENUE OVERVIEW

The Concourse is a state-of-the-art hub for culture, entertainment, information, retail, food and beverage, opened in Chatswood in September 2011.

Century Venues operate as the Managers of The Concourse, responsible for the Concert Hall, the Theatre and The Lounge.

We are seeking a skilled and passionate Lighting Technician to join our dynamic team and help bring our productions to life.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Extensive technical experience at a high level of your department specialisation: Staging

Extensive knowledge and experience in:

* Theatrical fly towers, their use and operation (rope or automated)
* Risk assessments and WHS policy and procedures.
* Following staging plans and mark-ups.
* Basic or Intermediate Rigging License (or willingness to obtain)
* Best practice in moving and tying drapes, cycloramas, scrim and other soft materials.
* Hanging scenery using engineered rigging systems.
* General understanding of all technical disciplines and ability to coordinate departments during bump ins, and rehearsals.
* Call show cues
* Create, modify, interpret and communicate production documentation.
* Respond to emergency situations calmly and efficiently. Directing crew and clients through necessary steps as outlined in procedure documentation.
* Willingness to operate basic AV equipment as productions require and resources allow.
* Strong interest/experience in audio, lighting or video systems desirable.

3. Experience in the delivery of live production in a similar genre and size to The Concourse. E.g. musical theatre, orchestral and chamber music, contemporary dance, drama, ballet, contemporary music, corporate meetings and product launches, etc.

4. Good general knowledge of all aspects of technical production and keeping that knowledge current with industry standards and practices.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCES

Desirable:

1. Construction Industry Induction (white Card)
2. Ability to read music for the purpose of cue-calling.
3. Competent Testing and tagging (AS/NZS 3760)
4. Construction Industry Induction (white Card)
5. Competent in safe operation of EWP’s (Vertical Lift)
6. Experience with I.T. infrastructure, switching, and network management.
7. First Aid Certificate
8. Basic or Intermediate Rigging License
9. AutoCAD or similar experience
10. Working Safely at Heights Competency
