About The Opportunity
Are you passionate about aviation safety and eager to take on a leadership role in a dynamic and collaborative environment? This position is pivotal in ensuring proactive oversight and management of aviation safety within the Airbus Australia Pacific (AAP) Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) organisation.

About The Role
As the Aviation Safety Manager, you will work closely with senior leadership, including the Senior Manager MRO, the Manager Safety & Quality NZ Operations, and the Defence & Services and Civil Helicopters business units. Your primary mission will be to enhance and mature aviation safety management policies, risk management strategies, assurance practices, and safety culture across the Maintenance function in Australia and New Zealand.

This role is ideal for a highly experienced aviation safety professional with a track record of driving safety excellence in maintenance organisations. The successful candidate will uphold and surpass regulatory expectations, manage aviation safety risks proactively, and foster a strong safety culture through leadership and collaboration.

Key Responsibilities
Risk Management

* Increase proactive reporting for the MRO function.
* Facilitate and coordinate risk management processes and Top Safety Enhancer activities.
* Proactively identify, assess, and manage aviation safety risks to ensure controls are effective and risks are minimised SFARP (So Far As Reasonably Practicable).
* Verify mitigation effectiveness and monitor safety outcomes.
* Provide input to the AAP Change Management process (e.g., Maintenance risk assessments).

Safety Assurance

* Mature and integrate Maintenance policies with the AAP Integrated Safety Management System (iSMS) and Commonwealth of Australia (CoA) SMS.
* Monitor and report on aviation safety culture metrics (KPIs).
* Ensure compliance with Defence and Civil SMS regulations.

Safety Promotion

* Develop and deliver targeted aviation safety training, promotion, and communication strategies.
* Lead safety campaigns and facilitate stakeholder engagement through surveys and interviews.
* Drive positive aviation safety culture and behaviours across the Maintenance function.
* Share lessons learned and best practices with the global aviation safety community.

Leadership and Advisory

* Advise Accountable Managers and the Senior Manager Aviation Safety on all safety management matters.
* Propose and deliver safety objectives aligned with organisational goals.
* Interface with regulators (e.g., CASA, DASA) and ensure regulatory compliance.
* Prepare and lead aviation safety reviews within the Maintenance function.
* Provide expert investigation support for aviation safety occurrences, including leading major incident investigations.

About You
To be successful in this role, it is a requirement to be able to work in a team environment, have well developed relationship skills as well as good verbal and written skills. You will need to be someone who is able to work autonomously and to tight deadlines and work comfortably in a continuous improvement work environment. The skills and experience best suited to this role:

* Minimum of 10 years of experience in aircraft maintenance engineering (Part 145 or equivalent).
* Minimum of 10 years in aviation safety roles within the aviation industry.
* Operational knowledge of aviation sustainment operations.
* Superior understanding of aviation regulations (DASA, CASA, EASA, EMAR, CAA, DAA).
* Proven ability to resolve airworthiness and safety-related issues with strong analytical and strategic problem-solving skills.
* Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships and manage conflicting priorities in a matrix organisation.

Desirable Qualifications

* Contemporary aviation safety or quality qualifications (e.g., Baines Simmons, Southpac Aerospace).
* Aircraft Maintenance Engineer/Technician qualification or Part 66 Aircraft Maintenance Engineer Licence.
* Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) or equivalent Chartered Professional Engineer.
* Part M Continuing Airworthiness Maintenance competency (e.g., Baines Simmons, Aviation Australia).
