The Job Profile
The National Account Manager, Book Trade is responsible for driving national sales performance across the Australian book trade through the effective management of key head office and independent accounts, alongside leadership of the National Field Sales team.
The Job Role
This role plays a critical part in delivering revenue growth, strengthening customer partnerships, and ensuring the consistent achievement of sales targets across the Australian book trade. Operating at both a strategic and operational level, it requires strong commercial acumen, data‐driven decision‐making, and the ability to leverage market insight to identify opportunities and mitigate risk. Success is defined by exceeding sales budgets, building lasting relationships across key accounts, and leading a high‐performing, engaged National Field Sales team.
Key Responsibilities
The National Account Manager is accountable for delivering sales targets across all assigned accounts and territories while driving sustainable and profitable growth. The role involves developing and maintaining strong relationships with head office, specialist, and independent accounts, analysing sales performance and market trends to inform strategy, and executing national sales plans to effectively present new titles and campaigns. It also includes identifying new business opportunities, optimising territory coverage, and ensuring a consistently high standard of customer service, alongside regular reporting to senior leadership and collaboration with internal teams to improve processes, drive efficiencies, and support a positive, inclusive team culture.
Candidate Profile
You will bring demonstrated experience in sales or account management, preferably within publishing, the book trade, or a similar environment, along with a proven track record of achieving or exceeding sales targets. You have a genuine enthusiasm for publishing and the ability to inspire that same enthusiasm in others, supported by a strong understanding of the book market, distribution channels, and consumer trends.
You are experienced in managing key accounts and building long‐term customer partnerships, with strong system capability across spreadsheets, presentations, and databases. Highly organised, you manage your time effectively through prioritisation and delegation. As a confident and adaptable communicator, you influence a range of stakeholders and tailor your approach to different audiences. You bring established leadership capability, including experience managing or mentoring teams across multiple locations, and approach your work with a collaborative, solutions‐focused mindset. Balancing strategic priorities with day‐to‐day execution, you are committed to developing a high‐performing, ambitious sales team that leads the market in expertise and results.
