Sewage Treatment Planning Engineer – City of Gold Coast
The Utilities Asset Planning and Management team, embedded within the Infrastructure Lifecycle, Planning and Performance branch, is responsible as the asset custodian for the development of the City's Local Government Infrastructure Plans (LGIP), network planning, new/upgrade infrastructure programs (including 10-year capital works programs), asset management planning, condition assessments and inspection programs, identifying renewal scope for delivery by Infrastructure Delivery, and managing Councillor requests associated with infrastructure for the city's water, sewerage and stormwater infrastructure.
About Your New Role
This position presents an exciting opportunity to work on planning and delivery of new and emerging projects, including the $1.3 billion Infrastructure Delivery Program (IDP), for the upgrade of four sewage treatment plants.
The salary for this position is subject to a pay increase of 4% (or up to 6.5% Brisbane CPI, whichever is greater) in October 2025.
What you'll be responsible for
* Managing master and detailed planning for sewage treatment plants, bioresource and biosolids management infrastructure.
* Developing strategic business cases through multicriteria assessment to identify scope, schedule, budget and risks to inform sewage treatment future capital works programs.
* Preparing planning reports and relevant design deliverables to define design parameters and cost estimates for capital works projects.
* Managing and coordinating consultants, teams, and contractors for specific projects.
* Preparing reports and presentations, including internal reports to management or Council; external reports to government agencies and funding bodies; and technical presentations for internal/external stakeholders.
* Contributing to developing and reviewing asset management plans to renew sewage treatment infrastructure.
* Contributing to integrated and strategic catchment planning, considering the impact of sewage treatment plants, bioresource and biosolids management infrastructure on the environment, customers and community and their role in improving outcomes alongside other solutions.
* Managing investigations into process bottlenecks and deficiencies, process improvement options and optimisation for sewage treatment plants, bioresource and biosolids management infrastructure.
* Reviewing proposed upgrade designs and remaining involved with design and delivery phases to ensure the basis of planning is maintained.
* Monitoring and evaluating emerging technologies relevant to the sewage treatment industry; evaluating and recommending innovative solutions to improve plant capabilities and address industry challenges.
* Engaging in problem-solving initiatives to address operational challenges, identifying opportunities for process optimisation and intensification to improve performance and resource efficiency.
We're Looking For People Who Have
* Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent knowledge.
* Driver's Licence Class "C" (Unrestricted).
* Extensive experience in sewage treatment planning, design and/or operations.
* Good knowledge of best practice in water and/or wastewater treatment technology.
* Strong understanding of asset management and planning, as well as project delivery of sewerage service business.
* Ability to interpret and analyse SCADA, flow monitoring and other data.
* Highly developed consulting skills to liaise with clients and stakeholders to achieve mutually successful project outcomes.
* Strategic and critical thinking mindset.
* Excellent interpersonal skills to engage with senior management, operations and maintenance teams, consultants and partners.
* Demonstrated commitment to safety.
* Excellent time and budget management abilities.
* Knowledge of relevant engineering legislation, standards, and principles.
* Self-motivated with ability to work autonomously and in a multi-disciplinary team.
* Must have unlimited work rights in Australia. Sponsorships are not available.
