What You'll Be Doing
Far West LHD is committed to growing a dedicated and sustained Rural Generalist medical workforce to assist in improving access, quality, and sustainability of primary health care services for rural and remote communities. NSW Health established the NSW General Practitioner Procedural Training Program (GPPTP) to provide Fellowed General Practitioners (GPs) with Advanced Skills Training (AST) opportunities or a flexible pathway to refresh and upskill a pre-existing advanced skill, in order to meet the healthcare needs of rural communities by providing advanced services in NSW rural hospital and primary care settings. Advance Skills trainees will undertake learning and professional development activities with the aim of completing accredited AST with the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) or the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP). This is a one-year full-time equivalent contract only. General Practitioners will be engaged under existing NSW Awards and determinations while undertaking Advanced Skills Training. It is recognised that General Practitioners undertaking procedural training may have established practices, therefore flexible training may be negotiated to allow continuation of part-time work in the practice. It is anticipated that, following completion of the Advanced Skills Training year, General Practitioners will return to General Practice, with incorporation of their newly acquired advanced specialty skills in NSW primary care and/or rural hospital to service the needs of the community.
