Job reference: 698248

Location: ADELAIDE

Job status: Ongoing

Eligibility: Open to Everyone

At the Department for Infrastructure and Transport, we are connecting South Australia to keep our State moving. We are responsible for delivering a multi-billion-dollar pipeline of transformative transport and social infrastructure projects, operating and maintaining thousands of kilometres of roads and managing our city's public transport network.

Our work encompasses every part of our State; from our cities to our regions, connecting and strengthening community. We value diversity and inclusion and foster an environment of collaboration, flexibility, and support for our people.

Public Transport South Australia

Public Transport South Australia (PTSA) moves millions of South Australians.

We provide well connected and customer-focused public transport services safely, efficiently and sustainably.

We are involved in delivering game-changing projects, from the electrification of our trains, improving services based on feedback and demand, through to the exciting transition to renewable energy, creating a legacy for our State.

The Opportunity

We have one position available that can be appointed at either PO2 Signals Engineer or TGO4 Signals Technical Officer – Systems Engineering, depending on the skills and experience of the successful candidate. This is a great chance to step into a role where your contribution will directly support the safe and efficient operation of South Australia's train and tram network.

As part of a multidisciplinary systems engineering team, you'll provide specialist technical and engineering support to the Manager, Train and Tram Assets. You'll work with service providers, contractors, and maintenance teams to ensure signalling systems are safe, reliable, and aligned with departmental standards.

Day to day, you'll review and provide assurance on signalling control systems and projects, contribute technical advice on engineering products, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to support the ongoing performance of rail assets. Whether you join us as a Signals Engineer or a Signals Technical Officer, your expertise will help keep South Australia moving.

About you

You're a technically capable and solutions-focused professional with experience working on complex signalling and control systems. Whether you're an engineer building your career or a technical officer with hands-on expertise, you bring practical skills in diagnosing faults, supporting system performance, and contributing to safe, reliable transport operations.

You're organised and adaptable, with the ability to plan, prioritise, and deliver quality outcomes even when working to tight deadlines. You can analyse complex projects, prepare clear reports, and provide advice that aligns with government standards and procedures.

Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills mean you can explain technical issues clearly, collaborate effectively, and resolve issues constructively. You're confident applying standards, procedures, and compliance requirements, as well as maintaining accurate records and documentation to support project delivery.

You also stay across industry risks and trends, with a sound understanding of safety, quality, and risk management requirements. Above all, you're motivated to contribute to a smarter, more connected transport network that the community can rely on.
