* Salary ranges from $149,739 to $173,174 + super & leave loading.
* Based at Sydney Olympic Park location – flexible work arrangements will be considered.
About the role

The Manager, Legal Services provides legal services to the Office of Sport across a generalist practice, including on complex and sensitive matters, with a focus on 5 core workstreams; advice, litigation, legislation, commercial and government business. The Manager is responsible for reporting legal outcomes, risks and issues to the Office and leads a team of up to three direct reports.

About you

You are a strategic legal leader who provides pragmatic advice on complex and sensitive matters, with proven experience in two or more of the following: providing advice, statutory interpretation, litigation, legislation, commercial and administrative law, and in managing external counsel and high‐stakes risk.

* Strategic legal advice: Provide independent, authoritative legal advice to the Deputy Secretary, Executive Directors and Minister's Office on complex and sensitive matters.
* Statutory interpretation and policy support: Interpret legislation and subordinate instruments; support policy and legislative development with clear legal analysis.
* Litigation and dispute management: Lead and manage the litigation strategy, pre‐litigation matters and matters in the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal and Local Court, instruct external counsel, oversee costs and performance, and represent the Office's interests in relevant forums.
* Legislation: Lead and manage the legislative program and instruct the Parliamentary Counsel's Office to draft legislative changes.
* Government business: Advise and review documents on administrative law, privacy, applications made under the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009, Standing Orders and other government specific issues.
* Legal drafting and documentation: Prepare and review contracts, submissions, briefing notes and other legal documents to achieve client outcomes.
* Team leadership and capability building: Lead, mentor and develop up to three direct reports; set priorities, monitor performance and foster a culture of continuous capability development.
* Formal qualifications include admission as a barrister or solicitor of the Supreme Court of NSW and to hold a current solicitor's unrestricted practising certificate in NSW.
* Demonstrated extensive experience in providing highly complex legal advice at a senior level.
* Significant experience in covering two or more of the following areas: advice (including statutory interpretation), litigation, commercial matters, legislation making, other government business.
