Senior Mental Health Clinician – Custodial FYMHS
Parkville Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (PYMHWS)
Permanent Ongoing | Full‑time 1.0 EFT | Cherry Creek

The Parkville Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (PYMHWS) provides dedicated mental health care to young people aged 12‑25 in Melbourne's north and west, along with their families, carers, supporters and kin. PYMHWS is Victoria's first standalone public mental health service built exclusively around young people's needs.


The Opportunity

The Senior Mental Health Clinician is a key position within the Forensic Youth Mental Health Service (FYMHS). FYMHS provides specialist youth mental health care in custodial settings (Parkville and Cherry Creek sites) to young people and their families/carers. This role delivers comprehensive mental health assessments, relationally informed psychological case management, and interventions, and provides clinical leadership, supervision, and governance to a multidisciplinary team.

About The Role

Hold a client case load and complete clinical assessments, formulations, and develop/deliver evidence‑based mental health treatment and care planning. The role is embedded within the Custodial FYMHS team and based at the Cherry Creek Youth Justice Precinct. Travel to other service locations is included within working hours.


What You'll Do

* Conduct mental health assessments, formulate treatment plans, and provide psychological treatment, crisis intervention, family support, and systems containment for young people in need of immediate care and their families.
* Deliver clinical care that aligns with PYMHWS standards, ensuring it is culturally safe, trauma‑informed, and responsive to diverse needs, including LGBTQI+, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, and multicultural populations.
* Establish and maintain strong partnerships with key agencies, community groups, and service providers through consultation, liaison, and collaborative projects.
* Engage in professional development through FYMHS‑specific and broader young mental health training initiatives.


About You

* A mental health clinician experienced in, and passionate about, early intervention and evidence‑based care for young people experiencing severe mental health difficulties, including personality disorder.
* Eligible disciplines: RPN Grade 4 / Occupational Therapist, Social Worker, and Psychologist Grade 3.
* Relevant registration and qualifications (see position description for details).
* Minimum 5 years' experience in tertiary and/or youth mental health, with demonstrated ability to supervise clinicians and work autonomously and collaboratively with clinical and organisational leaders.
* Sound knowledge of the youth justice and/or criminal justice system and other relevant community‑based forensic services.
* Motivated by youth‑focused, inclusive, and recovery‑oriented care.
