ABOUT US:
Yorgum was established in 1991 by a group of Aboriginal women, some of whom worked in women's refuges, who were concerned about the lack of appropriate counselling support for Aboriginal people experiencing spiritual, emotional and psychological pain. They founded a service with a 'healing' approach rather than an ongoing, crisis-driven 'patch-up' approach.
Yorgum offers all Aboriginal people and their families autonomous, community-based healing services that are culturally secure, trauma-informed and work within an Aboriginal Family Worldview.
The Role:
This position delivers trauma-informed counselling services to children and young people affected by family and domestic violence in Northam.
Essential Criteria:
To be considered for the role, you will be able to demonstrate the following experience and abilities:
1.Tertiary qualification in psychology/social work or Diploma in Counselling or a minimum of five years work experience working in similar field.
2.Demonstrated experience working with children and young people, and within a family and domestic violence or similar field.
3.Experience in supporting families and children, particularly those who are vulnerable, at risk or in disadvantaged communities, to improve functioning, safety and child development.
4.Demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal Terms of Reference and cultural competency.
5.Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with government agencies, community service providers and children and young people.
